Head of Credit Risk Management Private Clients Retail NL


You and your job

As Head of Credit Risk Management (CRM) Private Clients Retail NL you will be tasked with shaping a solid Credit Risk Management department which safeguards a sound and consistent credit risk oversight function on the Retail NL Private Clients portfolio, for which the residential mortgage portfolio of EUR 200 bn is the most prominent.  In close cooperation with the relevant MT Retail NL members, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and steering towards a solid 1st and 2nd line framework for these business activities. 

The Head of CRM Private Clients Retail NL is expected to operate independently and sets the framework for all transactions that touch the boundaries of risk appetite for Private Clients, in particular for residential mortgages, consumer lending and private banking.

Most important responsibilities

  • Setting the vision and strategy for the management of Credit Risk for Private Clients within the Retail NL domain (incl. Obvion and FREO)
  • Ensuring the execution of that vision and strategy against a measurable set of objectives and performance criteria to support the balanced management of the Risk, Reward, Sustainability Triangle.
  • Building a high performance team that proactively engages with all key stakeholders
  • Promoting an environment that fosters best practice and continuous improvement in Credit Risk Management whilst ensuring cost and process efficiency
  • Execution of these objectives through:
    • Providing strong credit risk governance and frameworks to Retail NL Private Clients;
    • Challenging, steering and advising on credit risk taking within Retail NL Private Clients;
    • Preparation of the credit risk report for private individuals, challenging and monitoring the credit portfolio for which the residential mortgage portfolio of EUR 200 bn is the most prominent, including the parameters from the report, and proactive steering and challenging on the portfolio (characteristics);
    • Challenging credit risks with new products or changes in products (oversight);
    • Challenging and monitoring changes in RUWC/RAH, in tariffs/rates, credit related Global Standards, Credit Risk appetite and limits, the CRAF PK; Delegated 2nd line ownership of Credit Models.  

The Head CRM Private Clients Retail NL is a member of both the MT CRO Retail NL and the MT CRM and as such reports hierarchically to the CRO Retail NL and functionally to the  Chief Credit Officer of Rabobank.

  • Masters degree and level thinking
  • 10 years+ banking experience in products and risk management with a clear preference for experience in the mortgage business.
  • Management experience (10+ years).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with business leaders and staff throughout the organization
  • Understanding of the current relevant regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of and strong affinity with credit risk management concepts, processes, organizations
  • Rabobank experience (network) is strongly preferred
  • Open and candid individual with excellent diplomatic and negotiating skills.
  • Stimulating and safeguarding a strong risk culture, awareness of risks and everyone's contribution to risk management and the protection of Rabobank's reputation.
  • A collaborative person who can work closely with others in a team-oriented setting.
