Tribe Architect Wealth Management
The Architecture department is responsible for the development, maintenance and enforcement of the IT strategy and architecture of Rabobank, in order to realize an effective long-term direction for IT in support of the bank’s strategy – in commercial, efficiency and risk perspective. Architecture creates IT vision & strategy documents, target architectures including architecture models, and principles and standards to guide the implementation.
Architecture also delivers transformation roadmaps and guidance for decision making by senior business and IT management. We combine our understanding of the business needs and technical capabilities to initiate a target architecture that is inspiring, feasible to implement and sustainable to maintain. In this way, we help Rabobank to realize its ambitions for an excellent customer focus, a meaningful cooperative, a rock-solid bank and empowered employees.
You and your role
The role of Tribe Architect takes responsibility for the development, maintenance and enforcement of the IT strategy and architecture of a specific architecture domain, including underlying architecture models, principles and standards and transformation roadmaps.
Collectively (with your colleague-architects) and individually (for your own team) you will be contributing to:
Developing the long-term IT (vendor) strategy and enterprise architecture in line with the strategic priorities of Rabobank.
Creating end-to-end process architecture for the business value chains in the function to support balanced decisions between commerce, efficiency and risk.
Managing (non-)functional and conflicting stakeholder requirements (e.g. short-term vs. long-term needs and standardization or customization of IT solutions).
Simplifying the application landscape and decoupling the applications along the lines of the enterprise business function model.
Developing and decommissioning of the (cloud) migration roadmap to reduce the application landscape complexity.
Safeguarding, steering and enforcing the realization of the vision and target architecture.
Realizing continuous cost reduction targets by developing the most cost effective architecture, roadmap, automation, process optimization and IT tooling.
Performance quality, security, risk and compliance of the Architecture department and your own team.
Maintaining a strong network in the market (vendors, competitors, fintechs etc.) to bring the outside-in perspective to the department.
This role is highly complex due to several reasons: No hierarchical power, a broad and multifaceted scope of the area of responsibility and a diverse group of stakeholders. A Tribe Architect should thrive and convince in various settings:
In the board room: Providing insight, structure and recommendations for decision making to senior (business) management. It takes an architect to explain complex matters in understandable language and pictures, to clarify the consequences of decisions or options and using the analysis to suggest recommendations which are so convincing and self-explanatory that they are ‘signature ready’.
On the shop floor: Ensuring the right strategic design decisions are made for both IT and business stakeholders. An architect should not hesitate about challenging deviations from the target architecture, priorities, decisions based on his/her conviction and earned mandate on the content at hand. In other words, an architect is not only responsible for the design and the direction but also the successful implementation thereof.
At the water: Coaching, mentoring and teaching architecture thinking and offering just-in-time architectural advice.
Utilizing all influencing styles (convincing, bridging, inspiring, asserting, and negotiating) is key in each situation. Your active role in ‘controlling’ the architecture and safeguarding the organization from taking a wrong direction by ensuring architecture standards and roadmaps are adhered to, requires:
Thorough understanding of the business and business strategy and impacting the target architecture, in line with the documented vision.
In-depth comprehension of current and future architecture, including the interrelations of underlying architectures.
Knowledge about market developments, technology roadmaps of IT vendors and fintech players, and directions competition is taking.
Strong conceptual thinking skills to develop a long-term strategy and integral architecture.
