Junior Java Developer iDEAL-Wero Payments - Early Career Program

Are you passionate about software development and eager to work on payment solutions that millions of people use? Join the Early Career Program (ECP) at Rabobank and grow into a Java Developer within one of the most visible payment environments in the Netherlands.

You and your future

At Rabobank, the ECP gives you the best of both worlds. For 18 months, you spend 1 day a week working on your technical and personal development through training, coaching and hands-on learning. The other 4 days, you work in your starter role as a Java Developer in a real team, on real products, with real impact.

You learn by doing. You discover what you are good at, what energises you and where you want to grow. With guidance from experienced colleagues and room to keep improving every day, you build a strong foundation for your career in tech.

About us

Area Shopping: You will join Area Shopping within Tribe Payments & Savings.

What we work on: Our area is responsible for several payment-related products and services, including iDEAL, Wero, cash solutions, Open Banking APIs, pricing solutions and the parking feature in the Rabobank app.

Why this is interesting: You will work in a team that combines large-scale payments with visible customer features. That means your work is both technically challenging and easy to recognise in everyday life.

Your role

As a Java Developer, you will work on one of the most important payment products in the Netherlands: iDEAL. At the same time, you will help shape the transition to Wero, the European successor to iDEAL. This is a major change in the payments landscape, and you can be part of it from the start.

You will join 1 of the teams working on iDEAL and Wero. Together, these teams are building and rolling out a new application chain while also developing new features for the future. Your work helps make payments easy, fast and reliable for customers.

You will work in a DevOps way. That means you do not just build software, you also take ownership of how it performs in production. Together with your team, you are responsible for the full lifecycle: from idea and development to testing, release, monitoring and support. We work by the principle: you build it, you run it.

Alongside iDEAL and Wero, the team also owns the parking feature in the Rabobank app. This is a growing feature with daily customer usage and gives you the chance to work on a product that is highly visible and fully owned by the team from end to end.

Examples of your work
  • iDEAL to Wero transition: Help build and improve the new application chain that supports the move from iDEAL to Wero.
  • Fast checkout journeys: Contribute to solutions that make online payments smoother and easier for customers.
  • High-volume transaction processing: Develop applications that can handle large payment volumes in a reliable and scalable way.
  • Monitoring and reliability: Help build dashboards, logging and alerts to keep our services available 24/7.
  • Customer-facing app features: Work on the parking feature in the Rabobank app, a service that is used by customers every day.
Practical details
  • Program length:18 months.
  • Hours per week: 40.
  • Location: Wintthontlaan 1, Utrecht (Hybrid)
  • Start date: The program starts at the first of October, but you can start working in your role as a Junior Java Developer earlier.
Your development

At Rabobank, development comes first. During ECP, you follow training that supports both your technical growth and your personal development. You build your network, learn from experienced colleagues and gain skills that will support you throughout your career.

You also get the space to learn from experience. We believe growth comes from trying, improving, asking questions and learning from feedback. That is why we offer the right balance between freedom and support.

Learning from each other

You will work with experienced engineers and other young professionals in an environment where collaboration matters. We value people who keep learning, speak up, ask questions and help move ideas forward. This is a place where you can grow your technical skills, strengthen your confidence and make an impact from the start.

“Area Shopping offers diverse learning opportunities for me as a former IT trainee. It is a diverse, safe and enjoyable environment where you can apply your knowledge to real-world challenges, from payment processing systems to street parking.” An Li, Java DevOps Engineer
