Head of Model Risk Non-Financial

At Rabobank, models are the backbone of our digital transformation, regulatory compliance, and key banking processes such as client due diligence, pricing, capital positioning, and stress testing. They empower us to achieve more with less—more lending and enhanced client journeys with less capital. However, models inherently carry risks. 

This is where Model Risk Management (MRM) plays a crucial role. MRM maximizes the benefits of models and advanced analytics, enabling accurate decision-making, regulatory compliance, and protection against financial and reputational losses. We ensure that models across the entire bank are fit for purpose, accurate, used as intended, and meet both internal and external expectations through validation activities, business advisory, and mature model risk governance and oversight (MRMF – Model Risk Management Framework, RCF – Risk Control Framework). 

We operate in an environment characterized by rapid technological advancements, regulatory complexities, and accelerated social and geopolitical changes. These trends create conflicting priorities, necessitating an adaptable and future-fit workforce, as well as scalable and sustainable ways of working. Therefore, we need dynamic and visionary leadership to partner with the Head of Model Risk Management to create a resilient and mature department fit for the future.

You and Your Job 

We are looking for a dynamic and visionary leader with a T-shaped profile and a proven track record in leading leaders. This role requires a strategic thinker with innovative problem-solving skills and extensive exposure to various risk types and lines of defense. The ideal candidate will bring a balance of skills that include leadership, influence, project management, strategic planning, people management, business acumen, and cross-domain collaboration. You will be adept at thinking outside the box to continuously improve the MRM strategy while being flexible and thriving in ambiguity and uncertainty. 

Practical Examples 
  • Own and execute the Non-Financial domain(inc. Compliance, HR, IT and other non-financial models) roadmap in alignment with MRM strategic planning and vision. 
  • Achieve operational excellence within the Non-Financial domain, including budget, resource planning, and growth strategy. 
  • Drive cross-functional teams to achieve robust and resilient adaptive risk management outcomes. 
  • Partner with senior colleagues to shape the MRM strategy and vision.

Key Skills: 
  • Hold a master’s or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Finance). 
  • Have extensive experience (12+ years) in banking and risk. 
  • Have transformation/change leadership experience. 
  • Have experience across the three lines of defense: business, model development, validation, and/or audit within the relevant field. 
  • Show leadership expertise in cross-risk and emerging risks such as ESG and AI and their impact on model risk next to existing risk such as Conduct, Fraud, Transaction Monitoring or Credit Risk.
  • Able to bridge regulations and policies with business enablement. 
  • Able to connect the dots, bridge silos, and maintain a helicopter view. 
  • Have an excellent command of English. 
  • A consulting background is an advantage.
