Department and Project context

The Wholesale & Rural (W&R) domain within IT Systems supports the Wholesale and Rural bank (W&R) across the globe. W&R is divided into 3 different tribes: Markets & Treasury, Financing and CBD (Clients, Bankers and Data services). Within the Financing tribe the Loan Products & Payment area will focus on our core banking. We will make it easy for our clients to do business with the bank by focussing on simplified operational processes, data value creation, automation of the risk controls and by driving (digital) innovations. The area is also working on strategic programs together with other domains to realize the bank’s digital transformation.

Within the area the various squads are responsible to seamlessly replace the existing local Corporate Banking applications into one single global platform, and to create an Open Banking Layer connecting to the outside world. This all will contribute to the W&R objectives to become a truly client centric bank by enhancing customer experience, reducing costs and operational risks, easing implementation of regulations, increasing efficiency and the ability to innovate. Multiple squads are developing and maintaining the Core Banking Platform and work together in building an accessible, safe and future-proof solution which facilitates standardised and STP processes worldwide with high accessibility for our customers at low costs.

Your teams: Agency and Lending Squads

You will be responsible for guiding two squads - Agency and Lending – consisting of developers, business analysts and testers that work on our core banking systems. For the Lending squad, the test-process needs some active guidance and monitoring. For the Agency squad there is a strict deadline for implementing certain epics by the end of this year. Special guidance is needed in facilitating (and coordinating) this implementation process. It can even be the case that Kanban will be the wow till end of this year and you maybe need to split the squad. Also important to help the squads in the use of Azure and maybe even some PMO work in the beginning can be part of your job. Managing dependencies is a crucial part of the role. For the rest, team members are very diverse in backgrounds, experiences and cultures. Most communication will be in English as the end-users, team members and other stakeholders reside on different locations across the globe.

Key responsibilities

  • Scrum Facilitation: Lead and facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Monitor the progress of the team. Especially in Agency squad some PMO/PL guidance is needed.
  • Be creative and bold to see what works for the team and decide on that way of working (for example if Kanban wow is a better way forward  or split the team if necessary).
  • Guide and coach the squads on self-organization and cross-functionality so that the team has the focus to achieve the ambitious goals. To this end, you motivate the team and facilitate the collaboration process inside and outside the team;
  • Active involvement in managing intra-squad dependencies
  • You work closely with the Product Owner; setting a clear scope and goal, techniques for Product Backlog management, product planning, value maximization, agility, facilitating events where requested or necessary;
  • Collaboration: Foster a culture of collaboration and open communication, promoting transparency and trust within the team and stakeholders.
  • Obstacle Removal: Identify and remove impediments to the team's progress to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Continuous Improvement: Encourage a mindset of continuous improvement by facilitating retrospective discussions and implementing action items.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their priorities and ensure alignment with the team's goals.

Your profile

We are looking for a Scrum Master, who:

  • Has significant experience as a Scrum Master in a financial or related industry in a multi-cultural environment
  • Has a natural authority within a team. A real senior to the team with the power of persuasion.
  • Has strong facilitation and communication skills.
  • Is at least Scrum certified (PSM 1)
  • In-depth Azure knowledge (for relevant parts of the job)
  • Knowledge and experience in testing
  • Well organised and can help structuring work of the team
  • Has clear communication in English (written and verbal)
  • Has some (basic) experience in SQL or Oracle Flexcube (pré)
  • Strives to continuously improve yourself, your colleagues and work processes
