As a Junior Commodity analyst, you focus on agricultural commodity market research (cocoa, dairy, wheat, corn, soybeans, coffee, sugar etc) in order to position Rabobank as a knowledge leader in Agri commodity markets through research reports and analysis, client engagement and media profiling.

The team, you and your job
Agri Commodity Markets Research (ACMR) focuses on commodity market analysis and supporting the commodity derivative sales team, among other stakeholders like corporate relationship managers (RMs), Trade Commodity Finance (TCF), and products like M&A, Value Chain Finance, etc. The objective is to produce research content, and price forecasts in particular, in order to engage clients. In your role, you will provide support for the senior members of the team and take increasing responsibility to do your own research on different agricultural commodities.  At least at the beginning, the need is to focus on dairy and cocoa while providing support across agri commodities.

As you grow in the job, you proactively identify business opportunities and foster increased knowledge development on agri commodity markets. Also, you forge close links with various business units in Rabobank focused on agri commodity markets, specifically Markets, TCF and other parts of Corporate and Rural banking.

Practical Examples

  • Support the production of high-quality commodity research on the major agri-commodity markets
  • Accompany RM’s and/or corporate sales on client visits, often abroad, and engage with them on relevant market topics to support revenue generation of the bank
  • Help the team develop, design and produce regular agri-market reports and podcasts/videos
  • Assists in generating ideas for business development, products, and knowledge-sharing

Top responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality research and engage with clients, together with sales and or trading
  • Support the development of price forecasts for major agri commodity markets and develop analysis relating to world Agri Markets
  • Proactively generate ideas and content for internal and external research projects
  • Proactively identify opportunities to share information and knowledge, as well as develop a close working relationship with colleagues globally.
  • Talk to the media in both English and Dutch

You and your talent

Master Degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, geography or equivalent relevant work experience.

2-4 years of working experience at a physical trading house or in Agriculture.

Fluency in English and Dutch. Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

  • Willingness to learn and to build sufficient knowledge of agri commodity markets – particularly of the assigned commodities
  • Knowledge of commodity derivative products
  • Capable of public speaking (in English and Dutch)
  • Affinity to work with numbers and datasets
  • Programming and/or database skills as well as Bloomberg/Reuters
  • Adequate report writing skills (in English)
