The mission of the CRO organisation is ‘we deliver sound and simple Risk Management solutions to increase our resilience while enabling our client’s success and the banks growth’, with the vision to ‘secure risk excellence in the heart of ABN AMRO’. Therefore, the CRO organisation focusses on four strategic pillars: Simplicity, Execution Focus, Risks that Matter and Risk Culture. These strategic pillars rely on their People, Innovation, Seamless Processing, Governance & Organisation to successfully realise the Risk Management Vision. And as our Credit Risk colleague, you will contribute directly to bringing these strategic priorities to life!

Your job

In this position, you will support core activities related to the Definition of Default (DoD) Control Framework and Material Change Assessments (MCAs). You will contribute to maintaining and executing DoD controls that support ABN AMRO’s compliance with applicable regulatory and policy requirements in its daily operations. In addition, you will help coordinate MCA (Material Change Assessment) activities for relevant changes to rating systems, working with stakeholders to support timely assessments and the appropriate supervisory submission process where required.

Your Key Activities

  • Support the maintenance of documentation related to the DoD control framework.
  • Contribute to the documentation of DoD controls, including metrics, procedures, and supporting records, in alignment with stakeholders.
  • Participate in selected DoD control execution activities by analysing monitoring KPIs and back-testing results.
  • Coordinate DoD control activities by collecting input, following up with stakeholders, and tracking actions.
  • Coordinate MCA activities by collecting input and tracking progress with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare input for MCAs for selected changes to rating systems.

The DoD Centre and Findings Resolution team is also responsible for a range of additional activities, including maintaining the DoD governance, coordinating supervisory application packages, credit risk findings resolution and supervisory engagements. While your primary focus will be on controls and MCAs, we see this role as an opportunity to grow over time and gradually contribute to other activities across the team.

Working environment

The Credit Risk department consists of five teams: Credit Risk Decisioning, Credit Risk Policies & Requirements, Credit Risk Collateral Centre, Credit Risk Control & Oversight, and Credit Risk Analytics & Reporting. Together, these teams deliver value and resilience for ABN AMRO to enable our Clients’ success and the Bank’s growth by measuring, assessing and managing the principal risk the bank faces: credit risk.

The Credit Risk Control & Oversight department is responsible for designing, implementing and owning the bank's Credit Risk control framework. Active oversight is furthermore exercised over the client units via risk review activities. The department is also the home of the Definition of Default (DoD) Centre and is responsible for coordinating and resolving Credit Risk regulatory and audit findings. Additionally, it conducts Material Change Assessments (MCAs) for Credit Risk.

Your profile

  • Academic qualifications: University degree in Economics, Econometrics, Business Administration, Law, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of relevant experience in credit risk management, regulatory implementation projects, or related areas within a financial institution.
  • Knowledge:
    • Foundational knowledge of the EBA Definition of Default guidelines and of regulatory requirements for assessing the materiality of changes and extensions to Internal Ratings-Based (IRB) approaches and preferably other Credit Risk regulations (e.g., CRR/CRD, Basel, EBA).
    • Understanding of Credit Risk processes, data, and systems.
    • Awareness of regulatory landscape.
  • Skills:
    • Project management skills for workflow organization, stakeholder alignment, and progress tracking.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow established processes.
    • Problem-solving skills in Credit Risk practices.

Behaviour we want to see within Risk Management:

  • Debate, debate, decide - I gain different perspectives on impact throughout the value chain. I then take the decision, accept the decision and respect single accountability & responsibility.
  • Keep it simple - I start with the goal, I set well-defined requirements, I proactively address dependencies, I seek feasibility in plans and I don’t overpromise.
  • Embrace Good - I don't go for perfect and I do what is right and compliant.
  • From being nice to being kind - I ask and act on feedback, I am open about the good, the bad and the ugly. I reflect, I adapt and I move forward.
  • No excuses, stay the course - I take the lead, I own it. I act quickly, I standardize progress updates to ensure timely support and I escalate.

We are offering

  • Growth opportunities across credit risk and regulatory topics.
  • Exposure to senior stakeholders and cross-functional collaboration.
  • A meaningful role with visible impact on risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Room to broaden scope over time beyond the initial focus areas.
  • A diverse and knowledgeable team that supports collaboration and shared learning.
