At a glance

We are looking for an enthusiastic senior data engineer to join us at the Finance & Risk Data Domain. Eight or more years of experience is required, and you would join us at the hay level of 11 (€63.000 - € 100.000 yearly gross, based on 36h/week including holiday allowance & benefits budget). The position is for 40 hours per week.

This department consists of multiple teams that each work on one or more data products that serve a particular goal. When you join on of these teams, you will work on those data products. These products support the reporting function of the bank, and allow downstream teams to prepare both internal and external reports, that help steer decisions and disclose required information to the central bank.

Your job

As a senior data engineer you will first and foremost act as an example to the others in your team when it comes to development practices, clean code and software design. Your experience will be invaluable when making decisions and creating a future proof application. Aside that you will also contribute directly to the codebase, and assist with the end to end responsibilities that we have as a devops team.

Some typical activities include:

  • Championing good development practices (examples: rigorous PR reviews, coaching junior engineers, helping steer design decisions)
  • Monitoring production processes and troubleshooting
  • Creating new data products (onboarding new data, adding transformation logic etc.)
  • Adding features to underlying platforms
  • Improvement and optimization of existing code

Your profile

Our software is built using a mix of Python and SQL, and runs on databricks. Scheduling resides in Airflow and we use several internal libraries/components that provide standardized features for all data teams in ABN AMRO. Experience in the following areas is desired:

  • Python
  • Pyspark / databricks experience
  • SQL
  • Airflow
  • Software development practices such as:
    • Clean code
    • (unit) testing
    • Patterns
  • Excellent communication skills

After initial screening, the interview process consists of a first interview to go over the role and relevant experience and skills in broad strokes. This is followed by a technical assignment and a technical interview. The assignment covers the basic aspects of the job and forms a starting point for the second interview.
