IT Network Automation Engineer
To realize our Future Fit Workforce ambition, we are looking for a Network Automation Engineer for our Network & Data Center. In this position you will play a key role in creating self-service network services, automating our core platforms and accelerating the transition to factory-style, automated network delivery. Do you want to work at the center of a digital transformation? Do you want to have the opportunity to help shape the future of ABN AMRO’s network and network self-services? And do you want to work in an environment where automation is central and where your skills have direct impact on thousands of engineers? Then keep on reading and apply!
Within our Network & Data Center (NW&DC) Engineering departmen we are responsible for end2end network connectivity and network security across our datacenters, cloud platforms, offices and remote locations. Automation, security, resilience and compliance form the core of what we do.
As a Network Automation Engineer, you will work in one of the NW&DC Engineering teams that design, build and automate our network platforms. You are an engineer who combines platform engineering thinking with deep network automation expertise. You help build a future where developers can fully consume frictionless, selfservice network services — from provisioning to security controls — through automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and API- driven- platform services. You work in an Agile environment with a strong focus on continuous improvement, reliability, security, standardization and end-to-end- efficiency.
You will:
- Design, build and manage automated network & network security solutions.
- Develop self-service network platforms for developers.
- Automate configuration, lifecycle management and deployment of network components (using IaC, Python, Ansible, GitOps, CI/CD).
- Implement end-to-end integrations between on-prem, cloud and platform services to ensure network functionality is reliable and consistent everywhere.
- Standardize repeatable network patterns and translate them into code/templatized solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex network problems with an automation-first mindset: root cause elimination > workaround.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Network Security Specialists and DevOps teams to accelerate automation roadmaps.
- Actively contribute to automated testing, validation and security controls within pipelines.
- Invest in your growth toward a T-shaped engineer, with focus on networking, automation, security and cloud integration.
The Networks & Datacenter (NW&DC) Engineering department is part of Platform & Technology (P&T) within ABN AMRO. P&T delivers a standardized, secure and always-on- IT landscape that supports thousands of applications and DevOps teams. Within NW&DC Engineering, we design, operate and continuously improve the bank’s enterprise network landscape across datacenters, cloud platforms, office locations and remote environments. We are strongly adopting Platform Engineering principles to offer end-to-end integrated and automated platform services to our developers.
Our goal is to help you grow towards T-shaped engineering (with training and certifications) and being part of a professional and ambitious team where collaboration, innovation and quality come first.
You are a strong automation engineer with networking knowledge. You have deep understanding of automation standards and the drive to eliminate, automate or standardize anything that is manual. You have a strong drive to eliminate manual work — automation is not merely a goal for you, but a belief. And you're known for your collaborative, proactive attitude with ownership of quality and results. Furthermore you recognize yourself in the following hard skills:
- Experience with network automation (Python, Ansible, API integrations).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps is a plus).
- Knowledge of IaC principles, Git, YAML, templating (Jinja2) and automation frameworks.
- Basic knowledge of networking at CCNA level or higher (routing, switching, security, segmentation).
- Cisco CCNA or higher, or equivalent based on formal education.
- Certifications such as: CCNP/CCIE Automation and Azure DevOps AZ-400
- Experience with dashboarding/monitoring integration (Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic).
- Experience standardizing and automating repeatable network deployments.
