The Coverage Banker / Director is positioned in the Corporate Banking Clients (CBC) department and reports to the Managing Director, Head of New Energies UK Coverage.

Your job

The role of the Director is to develop and manage a portfolio of UK and Irish Corporate clients in line with CBC strategic ambitions and within New Energies. This will be achieved through a combination of internal work with product, risk and solutions partners and direct interaction with clients and market introducers.

In addition, they will be expected to take a leading role in the training and development of the team juniors.

Key components of role will include:

  • Act as the primary contact for all client interaction within their portfolio. This includes leading the relationship with senior client participants (CFO/CEO) and continuously develop the client relationship to ensure ABN AMRO is viewed as a trusted advisor; using their advanced knowledge on the relevant sector.
  • Steers the commercial activities relating to their portfolio; taking account the interests of the client through a multi-year lens and using conceptual thinking to provide highly sophisticated solutions.
  • Responsible for the creation and presentation of appropriate marketing materials.
  • Generates leads and business opportunities with both new prospective clients and existing portfolio. This includes efforts to achieve the Bank’s sustainability agenda.
  • Generates leads for other business lines and other teams within the wider Bank.
  • Organise and manage the Client Service Teams (CSTs), ensuring efficient and effective coverage to manage P&L and Balance Sheet targets, maximising risk-adjusted returns. Take responsibility for effectively communicating clients’ needs to a diverse audience and ensuring a streamlined execution with superior delivery of relevant products and solutions to meet client requirements.
  • Responsible for making and executing account plans for clients in cooperation with the relevant product departments, taking into account the Bank’s risk appetite framework.
  • Work with colleagues across ABN geographical footprint to ensure consistent application of the Bank’s chosen themes.
  • Responsibility for executing CBCs chosen strategy in the UK & Ireland, for clients within their relevant sectors.
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of internal and external developments relevant to the Corporate & Institutional Clients organisation, clients and products and act accordingly to achieve objectives.
  • Expected to be a knowledge expert in relation to their client portfolio’s core sector(s) and proactively share relevant information with all appropriate stakeholders.
  • Support the Head of Coverage UK & Ireland in the development and implementation of the 5 year business plan and budget.
  • Actively engage to ensure close collaboration with broader New energies team, other departments and product areas.
  • Proactively contributes towards priorities of the UK Coverage team and the wider Bank. Shows a willingness to challenge the status quo in a professional manner as and when appropriate.
  • Ensures correct application of the relevant risk, compliance and sustainability policies of the bank.
  • Responsible for the effective cooperation with Corporate Lending, Risk Management, Compliance and other relevant stakeholders within the Bank.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including to the Head Office in Amsterdam.

Your profile

  • Graduate or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience working inside a UK client coverage team, within an established financial institution or professional services firm; including building and developing client relationships and deal pipelines.
  • Strong and proven network within relevant New Energies sectors and within the professional services community.
  • Holds themselves accountable to the highest levels of performance and energises the junior members of the team to drive results.
  • Well-versed in upwards stakeholder management and has strong working relationships with internal partners; adapting style to align with audience and technical capabilities. Building deeper external stakeholder management skills; making decisions through the perspective of the client.
  • Achieves top tier execution excellence and efficiently utilises resources to do so.
  • Determined and proactive self-starter, working in a structured and organised manner.
  • Acute attention to detail and consistently strives for the highest quality output in all work.
  • Excellent credit skills and demonstrable understanding of economic and risk factors relevant to chosen sector(s).
  • Broad and relevant industry knowledge relevant to applicable themes / Bank strategy.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of debt, risk management and transaction banking related product solutions available to Corporate clients.
  • Understanding of different business models and capital structures across specific sub-sectors within New Energies
  • Knowledge of current social and economic developments, industry and sector dynamics, competition and relevant events in the international markets.
  • Understanding of ABN AMRO's vision and strategy as well as the operating concepts, business processes, organization, products and services of large multinational financial institutions.
  • Willingness to question in an appropriate manner and contribute to improving standards and quality at all times.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and contribute to the performance and development of the team.
