Portfolio Manager of Platform Engineering & Operations

As a Portfolio Manager, you will play a vital role in the planning and delivery of the department’s change portfolio, by guiding the Management Team (MT) in balancing high demand, conflicting stakeholder priorities, and limited resources.
P&T underlines the strategic importance of Portfolio Management with a dedicated Portfolio Management team. This team has the ambition to further mature the Portfolio management capability within Platforms and Technology (P&T). Guiding and advising the MT to make the best possible use of available resources to deliver maximum value in line with our strategy and Objectives and Key results (OKRs). As a Portfolio Manager, you monitor commitments made within and outside the department, the dependencies between them, and their progress. You will oversee key portfolio ceremonies and processes essential for strategic steering, and fostering collaboration. To be in control of your portfolio, you identify and address risks. By providing valuable insights and (un)solicited advice, you will empower the MT to make informed decisions and strengthen the portfolio management maturity.
You will serve as the linking pin between the portfolio management team and the Platform Engineering & Operations organization, implementing new standards and improvement initiatives while simultaneously identifying and communicating potential areas for enhancement to the portfolio team for P&T-wide adoption.
Your expertise in stakeholder management, combined with your ability to constructively challenge management teams, will be essential. You bring a proactive and pragmatic mindset, supported by strong analytical capabilities and strong ownership. You flourish in a complex environment when you engage with many different stakeholders. Your capacity to quickly navigate and adapt to new contexts enables you to effectively shape initiatives, build alignment, and firmly anchor them for successful execution.
Some examples of your responsibilities:
- Serve as a sparring partner to the Management Team Platform Engineering & Operations, offering both solicited and unsolicited advice;
- Oversee and manage the department portfolio by utilizing JIRA Align to monitor roadmap progress. Provide insights to evaluate progress, address dependencies and risks, and identify improvement opportunities;
- Lead monthly dialogues with the MT on strategic goal (OKR) alignment and progress;
- Lead essential portfolio processes and ceremonies within the department to foster strategic decisions and collaboration across the departments;
- Facilitate decision-making and identify necessary actions to increase portfolio predictability by initiating conversations with stakeholders, including portfolio managers, product owners, and management team members.
- Contribute to the development of standards and methods aimed at enhancing decision-making, maximizing value, increasing portfolio predictability, enhancing data quality, and improving process efficiency.
- Increase awareness and knowledge on portfolio-related topics within P&T.
Platforms & Technology (P&T) is a service-oriented organization that provides IT to ABN AMRO employees and networks with reliable, controlled, business-focused, easily adaptable, and future-proof IT platforms and technologies. These can be accessed via a self-service mechanism and offer a shorter time to market for (new) functionalities. As a member of the Portfolio Team, you play an important role in streamlining collaboration between these P&T departments and other stakeholders. As a Portfolio Manager, you are a member of the Portfolio Management team (8 employees) within P&T Office. - You are a pragmatic, solution-oriented, and proactive professional with a strong sense of ownership, able to operate effectively at operational, tactical, and strategic levels;
- You demonstrate experience in portfolio management;
- You have experience with Agile methods and tools (e.g., Jira Align, Jira, Azure DevOps);
- You demonstrate strong consulting skills, including creating clear and compelling slide decks (PowerPoint);
- You are a true change agent—able to pitch, drive, and implement new initiatives;
- You have experience working within a corporate environment, where you are comfortable dealing with complexity and are skilled in effective stakeholder management;
- You have excellent English skills, proficiency in Dutch is considered an asset.
