As Manager Risk Modelling, you develop policies and build expertise for the Hub Risk & Compliance and other hubs within the bank. You play a decisive role in the effectiveness of the teams and develop the potential of the risk modellers.

This is what your job looks like
An impactful job also comes with a broad set of responsibilities. You have responsibility for the performance, development, vitality and well-being of around 40 risk modellers in the customer journey teams in the Hub R&C and the Bank Balance.
You also set the framework and policy for the development and monitoring of the application and effectiveness of policy, frameworks, and standards in the field of model development. You perform quality assurance on the delivered model reports and promote knowledge development among the risk modellers in the field of quantitative analysis and risk modelling.

You coordinate with the product owners of the customer journey teams which risk modellers are needed and who should be deployed on them. You are hierarchically responsible for the risk modellers in your Kern and therefore also for their assessment. You engage in dialogues with the Hub and Expertise Centre Leads about the development and deployment of the risk modellers. You naturally coach, inspire, and develop the risk modellers in their role and give them the space and support they need to be successful. You support the development of their knowledge and skills in the field. You coach them in their personal development.

As Lead, you are responsible for the proper functioning of the employees working from the Kern within the customer journey teams of the Hub Risk & Compliance. You are responsible for how they do their work (the 'how') and their employee journey. You create value for the customers by recruiting, selecting, training, and developing excellently qualified and motivated employees for the Hub.

With your Kern, you influence the policy and strategy of the Hub Risk & Compliance and achieve the desired results that contribute to the objectives of the Volksbank. You are a facilitating leader who serves the team and at the same time determines the direction and vision of the team. You can be vulnerable and open to new insights. You continually critically assess yourself and ask for feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

You will report to the Hub Lead Risk & Compliance.

Your tasks

  • You are responsible for developing and monitoring the application and effectiveness of policy, frameworks, and standards in the field of model development, enabling the organization to work uniformly.
  • From your policy responsibility, you participate in the Model Governance Committee.
  • The Kern Lead has solid knowledge of the functioning of (risk) models, particularly in the areas of credit risk and balance sheet management.
  • You ensure continuous knowledge and skills development for yourself and within the Modelling Kern so that the level of you and your employees meets the knowledge and skills needs in the organization and optimally responds to internal and external developments.
  • The Kern Lead has a long-term vision on model development, both in terms of new model techniques such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, and technically.
  • You make a crucial contribution to the development of the strategy and policy of the Hub Risk & Compliance and translate this into plans for your own area of focus.
  • You advise, influence, and inspire strategic and complex stakeholders.
  • You lead, develop, and coach your employees using HR instruments and techniques to achieve and ensure qualitative and quantitative staffing within your teams for the future.

Furthermore, you:

  • Have completed a university and/or postgraduate degree in mathematics, (financial) risk management, econometrics, physics, engineering or similar fields.
  • Have extensive experience in financial risk modelling or quantitative models at a financial institution.
  • Have affinity with applications such as Matlab or Python as well as insight into the information management required for risk modelling.
  • Have knowledge of banking activities, strategies, processes, products, culture, and the organization of a bank;
  • Can involve stakeholders with impact and persuasiveness;
  • Have extensive experience in facilitating leadership of teams with specialists. You know how to deal with professionals and perfectionists. You know how to motivate.
  • Have knowledge of relevant laws and regulations and are aware of relevant best practices in the financial sector.
  • Have extensive experience in facilitating leadership of teams with specialists in risk management.
  • Are familiar with data and modelling infrastructures in banking.
  • Are acquainted with agile working.

You’ll be working for de Volksbank, the parent company of SNS, ASN Bank, RegioBank and BLG Wonen. The gross annual salary for this position is between €86.786,67 and €133.517,91 (job level 13) including 13th month en holiday allowance. In addition, you can count on:
