Your job

The FR&R Expertise department consists of around 50 colleagues who are responsible for client assessments, developing and implementing restructuring and recovery action plans, handling relevant legal paperwork, and calculating and suggesting loan loss provisioning. Each team has approximately 10 colleagues who often work in deal teams on client files.

  • As a Recovery team member, you will be primarily involved in recovery and restructuring activities.
  • You will act as an advisor, perform client analysis, and be able to handle client dilemmas such as requests for bankruptcy.
  • You deal with complex situations, manage internal and external stakeholders, conduct in-depth legal and financial analysis, and proactively write and process credit proposals.

Working environment

FR&R is a department within ABN AMRO that deals with non-performing clients from Corporate Banking, Personal & Business Banking, and Wealth Management. It operates mainly in the Netherlands but has an international presence. The Expertise department is responsible for Dutch clients with an exposure larger than EUR 5 million and all international clients. FR&R Expertise is divided into five teams that perform three main activities:

  1. Restructuring: This team helps restructure (international) clients in financial distress.
  2. Recovery: This team guides clients through the consensual and non-consensual exit process, providing alternative options for restructuring. They also handle Secondary Sales, in which distressed debt is sold to third parties.
  3. Specialized Finance: This team focuses on alternative equity (and equity-like) instruments in restructurings to minimize ABN AMRO's credit losses and create value for all stakeholders involved. Eventually, the potential upside after implementation will benefit all stakeholders.

FR&R is located at the Gustav Mahlerlaan in Amsterdam and embraces hybrid working. The teams come together physically in the office a few times per week, and on other days, they work from home or spend time at the client's location. Depending on your client portfolio and the languages you speak, you may also need to travel. Working abroad for 3-6 months is an option in our offices in England, Germany, or France.

Your profile

  • You have a finished academic degree combined with 2+ years of relevant working experience.
  • You have an affinity with business, financial, and legal matters.
  • You have basic knowledge of credit structuring, risk / financial analysis, legal documentation.
  • You have an analytical mindset that enables you to grasp situations without getting bogged down in numbers while also thinking conceptually to identify opportunities for progress.
  • You have a drive for solutions and an entrepreneurial mindset to take action and work it out when faced with complex client situations.
  • You are empathic and have a good understanding of human emotions, as you will often be involved in difficult client situations involving emotions and negotiations.

  • The gross monthly salary displayed above is based on a 36-hour work week, including vacation pay and benefit budget.
  • The Benefit Budget is 11% of your salary. The Benefit Budget allows you to acquire additional employment benefits. If you make no purchases or reservations in the Benefit Shop in a given month, you are paid one twelfth of your Benefit Budget that month.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year. You have the option to purchase an additional four weeks per year.
  • Personal development Budget of € 1,000 per year, which you can accumulate up to € 3,000.
