At a glance

The Coverage Banker / Associate is positioned in the Coverage Banking department and reports to the Managing Director, Head of UK Coverage.

The mission of the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) Coverage team is to provide UK/ Ireland based Corporate and Financial Institution clients with a full service offering to meet their funding, risk management and transaction banking requirements.

The CIB Coverage function is the primary client interface and client relationship management role for serving Corporate and Financial Institution clients. The clients are organised by sectors and themes (e.g. RE, Digitisation, Energy Transition and Mobility Logistics Transition) and banker coverage mirrors ABN AMRO’s defined strategy. Coverage bankers liaise between their clients and product partners, sector heads and functions in the Netherlands to deliver solutions to UK/Ireland clients. The role of the Associate is to support the Coverage bankers across new and existing clients. The main products offered are Loans, DCM, Global Markets products (FX and IR), M&A, ECM, Transaction Banking, Trade Finance and Commercial Finance & Leasing. Clearing may also be in scope as appropriate.

The UK /Ireland Corporate Coverage business has the objective of developing client relationships with a turnover of at least GBP 100 million. The objective of the team is to achieve superior growth and returns via onboarding and developing relationships with both existing and new clients. This will be achieved through managing a moderate risk appetite in line with Bank policies. The emphasis is on building long term relationships based on trust and offering services and solutions which match the clients needs. The coverage bankers understand their clients’ strategies, issues and commercial challenges and are committed to exceed the clients expectations in order to achieve trusted advisor status.

Your job

The Coverage Bankers are responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships in line with the strategy of ABN AMRO.

The role of the Associate is to support the Coverage Bankers in achieving the teams objectives. This will be through a combination of internal work with product, risk and solutions partners and direct interaction with clients. In addition, they will be expected to actively help with the training and development of the team Analyst(s).

Key components of the role will include:

• Lead in the preparation and creation of presentation materials as well as client and prospect analysis.
• Actively support senior bankers in their day-to-day client interactions as well as on specific transactions.
• Actively support senior bankers with internal product partner discussions to help insure clients are appropriately serviced.
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the Bank’s various products and services and create strong working relationships with internal partners. The Associate will be expected to work with the Coverage Bankers to put this to appropriate use with both clients and prospects.
• Support senior bankers with the training and development of more junior team members.
• Assist with internal management information requests and client relationship management processes.
• Work alongside senior bankers to maximise franchise development at external marketing and client networking events.
• Work with senior bankers through the client onboarding and KYC processes to ensure successful and timely completion in line with Bank and Regulatory requirements.
• Understand and comply with relevant internal and external policies, procedures and develop a strong appreciation as to how they impact the team.
• The Associate will be expected to maintain their on-going professional development and attend relevant training.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including to the Head Office in Amsterdam.
• This will be a UK based role so candidate must have a UK work permit or resident status.

Your profile

• Graduate or equivalent.
• Experience of working inside a client facing team, ideally at an established financial institution or professional services firm.
• Determined and proactive self-starter.
• Willingness to question in an appropriate manner and contribute to improving standards and quality at all times.
• Demonstrable understanding of credit and risk related elements and processes.
• Keen awareness and desire to build relevant industry related knowledge. Affinity towards financial services.
• Solid understanding of economics and the general market environment, including ability to understand how conditions might impact the Bank’s clients.
• Solid understanding of the various banking products and services available to Corporate clients.
• Knowledge of current social and economic developments, relevant industry and sector understanding.
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and contribute to the performance of the team.
