ABN AMRO has a strong focus on supporting the energy transition, digitalization of society and logistic/mobility infrastructure. Within our project finance team we arrange structured debt financing for long-term infrastructure projects and infrastructure type financing to support ABN AMRO’s strategic focus. We finance renewable energy projects, energy transition projects, mobility & logistics and digital infrastructure projects across Europe. We operate across our offices in Amsterdam, London and Frankfurt.

Within the Project Finance team we are also responsible for all portfolio management activities of our Project Finance transactions this in addition of origination and execution of (new) transactions. Given a strong and profitable growth of our loan book we are looking for a portfolio manager who will contribute to ABN AMRO ‘Banking for better’ strategy.

Are you a portfolio management professional with a minimum of 6-7 years of experience of portfolio management, asset management, credit risk and/or structuring experience and are you eager to work closely together with a team of Project Finance professionals, ensuring that management and monitoring of our portfolio is sound and developing in a sustainable way. As our new portfolio management professional within Project Finance you will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong, constructive, sustainable relationships with existing clients and borrowers by high-quality and timely processing of portfolio related documents/issues and by detecting- and follow up of early warning signals. Once a transaction is onboarded by our origination/execution professionals, you will maintain the credit relationship with the client/borrower across the full life cycle of the loan.

Your job

It’ll be your job to manage part of the existing portfolio of project finance and Infrastructure debt transactions, including monitoring, reviewing, reporting, filing/administration and controlling credit risks during the tenor of the loan. As a portfolio manager you are responsible for timely and consistent handling and producing of credit papers, in-depth credit reviews of complex tailor made transactions, assignment of ratings, waivers/amendments, ongoing reviews of projects/clients performances and to process refinancing’s and/or top-up’s of existing debt exposures. You negotiate and coordinate with borrowers, agents, external advisors (legal, technical, insurance, financial) and our internal mid- and backoffice, credit risk department, legal department and restructuring/recovery. You are on top of your borrowers/sectors and signal early warnings by analysis of relevant sector trends which you report on a regularly basis to senior management and other stakeholders within the bank.

By occasion you assist the originators and executors for dealing with prospects and client requests including: attending lenders meetings, conferences, workshops and internal knowledge sharing sessions to (further) develop your project finance and infrastructure debt skills. Your job also includes: contribution to internal projects such as optimization of existing processes, regulatory developments and other organization wide initiatives. You typically work independently on your portfolio but in a multidisciplinary team taking into account the required balance in terms of seniority and sector expertise.

As an Associate Director you will work closely with trainees. Part of your job is to coach and develop the more junior staff in the team. As a senior member of our team, you actively facilitate the personal development of our junior colleagues, amongst other by providing effective feedback that helps your colleagues in their personal and professional development.

Working environment

Your team within Project Finance consists of c. 25 professional women and men, with diverse backgrounds and nationalities. The team works closely together ensuring that new deals, fully aligned with the ‘Banking for Better’ strategy of the bank are onboarded and that the portfolio is sound and growing in a sustainable way.

You shall be working in Amsterdam. We work in an open floor space on the Gustav Mahlerlaan (Zuidas), where we have all stakeholders in our vicinity (Client Coverage, Risk, Syndication, Products, Legal, Sustainability etc).

Your profile

Our ideal project finance professional has former portfolio management, execution and/or risk management experience and is able to manage complex tailor-made financing solutions by using specialized sector and structuring expertise. She or he doesn’t get stuck with one area of responsibility over another and is able to adapt to changes and use them to her/his advantage. ‘House-in-order’ is key in this role but you also have an entrepreneurial mindset combined with strong analytical and modelling skills and ability to decisively act either independently or as part of a team. You are able to contributing to a positive working environment by building solid relationships with team members.
