At a glance

This role will give you the opportunity to closely liaise with the business and work on real bank transactions. You will learn much about what banking really is! Country Risk manages and controls ABN AMRO's exposure to country risk, where country risk is defined as the risk that a counterparty is unable to honour its obligations due to sovereign-, economic-, political- or other events in or related to a country.
The management of country risk is achieved through: Establishing and maintaining an adequate policy & governance framework for managing country risks, Setting of country limits and organising (transactional) approvals if outside limits and in case of a country risk event, Establishing and maintaining rules & procedures for country risk limit recording and country risk exposure measurement, and Reporting of country risks to senior management and regulators including potential impact on the bank of geopolitical risks. Within Credit Risk the Country Risk team is organised together with Financial institutions and Sustainability.

Your job

Contribute to maintaining up to date Country Risk Policy and Country Risk Appetite Statement, Contribute to the quarterly production of the geopolitical risk page for the Enterprise Risk Management report, together with Group Economics manage process of Early Warning Monitoring meetings including maintenance of Increased Risk Country list and contribute to the production of the quarterly Country Risk Report that is produced together with Finance. Contribute in the organisation of a Country Event Meeting in case of a country event and Participate in the annual country ratings meeting with Group Economics, Contribute in the annual review process of country limits and provide transactional approval & advice for country risk if outside credit risk mandate, keep yourself up to date with relevant country risk developments through following publications from rating agencies, relevant news articles, etc. Be actively involved in further automation of country risk reporting and consequently the impact for country risk of system developments such as Rapid, GAIA, COBEX, etc. Ensure the PERDARR requirements for country risk are fulfilled. The role focus is on Country risk but you will also be asked to perform analysis and decision within the wider Financial Institutions area as FI analyst, and manage stakeholder contacts with relevant business lines, other risk management colleagues such as credit and sustainability analysts and beyond.

Working environment

You will become part of Financial Institutions, Country Risk and Sustainability within Credit Decisioning. The Country Risk team is organized together with teams that are responsible for Financial Institutions, Sustainability, Diamonds & Jewellery and Intercompany risk. Credit Decisioning performs a second line of Defence role, i.e. decides if the credit proposals of the business can be executed.

Your profile

  • University degree in Economics, Business Administration or related field or equivalent level of knowledge and/or relevant working experience,
  • Good understanding of macro-economics and risk management, i.e., credit analysis, modelling, risk-adjusted performance management, economic capital, policies, and regulatory capital requirements, as well as other legal and compliance requirements,
  • Comfortable with taking responsibility as formal authority for country risk decisions and FI as will be arranged for the position,
  • An excellent command of English, and good writing skills are required,
  • Preparedness to fulfil the role at minimum for 2 years, and
  • International experience with living or working abroad and working with an international network is a plus.

Salary indication: Eur. 60k - 80k all-in (incl. holiday allowance and benefit budget) gross per year based on a 40 hour workweek. 36 is also possible.
