
Compliance Risk Specialist
As a Compliance Officer, part of Compliance Operations (COO), you are a keystone in securing effectiveness of the Compliance Programme and the policies and methodologies used within Compliance. The COO has the task to bring the function to the next maturity level and ensure that the constantly evolving Compliance Function continues to keep up with regulatory expectations and emerging risks. The COO manages the change delivery with respect to the Compliance function.
The COO has three teams: Compliance Risk Management, Regulatory Oversight & Policies, and Planning, Oversight & MI. You will be part of the Regulatory Oversight & Policies team, where you will have a dedicated focus to maintain the compliance policy framework up to standard and you advice, provide training and develop processes and methodologies to support this framework in close cooperation with the relevant stakeholders within and outside Compliance.
Your work is an essential building block for securing the effectiveness of the Compliance Function. Your primary responsibilities are related to the policy framework, supporting processes and methodologies in line with the Non-Financial Risk Framework and Compliance Risk Policy. You will take on an active role in working together with different stakeholders within Compliance, such as the BCO teams and the Expertise centres. But also outside of Compliance, a solid and consistent collaboration with your peers within Risk Management and the first line stakeholders will support in creating bank wide process and therefore require you to engage in constructive stakeholder management. This includes:
- Ability to advice and support on a broad range of compliance integrity risk themes: Client Integrity; Client Protection; Data Protection; Organisational and Employee Integrity and Markets Integrity. This entails advising and providing support in relation: to the correct setting of risk mitigation (policy requirements) and the effectiveness of the implementation. Expert knowledge on one of the topics is an advantage.
- Manage and oversee all stages of the policy lifecycle and maintain processes to support this lifecycle, to work in accordance with bespoke governance and to evidence the correct and adequate execution of the processes.
- Manage central oversight on Compliance policy implementation globally including waivers, risk acceptance and timely review
- Writing, reviewing and developing Compliance Policies, including analysing and translating regulatory requirements into policy requirements. And be able to evidence policy coverage of laws and regulations on a detailed basis.
- Develop and maintain good quality Compliance policies & methodologies, procedures and guidelines in close collaboration with key Compliance risk experts.
- Coordinate the review of non-compliance policies amongst Compliance stakeholders to ensure consistency between Compliance- and other Risk policies, and to act as a reviewer.
- Oversee monitoring and the connection with the Enterprise Risk Management Cycle.
- Communicate with the main stakeholders and seek support for change and development throughout the policy lifecycle within and outside of Compliance.
An effective compliance culture, programme and Compliance Function are essential for ABN AMRO’s license to operate. The COO enforces universal, coherent global standards and processes for all distinguished building blocks of the Compliance Programme (such as policies, advisory, methodologies, processes, monitoring, reporting and annual planning, quality assurance), and has centralised global oversight on consistent, high quality execution thereof. The COO ensures the Compliance Programme is aligned with the bank’s 2nd Line of Defence risk framework, and actively engages with key stakeholders in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd LoD, as well as with external stakeholders including regulators.
Due to the broad nature of your work there is every opportunity to follow a steep learning curve with respect to understanding Compliance roles and responsibilities and operationalising the Compliance Function.
As Compliance Officer responsible in the regulatory oversight & policies team, you are at the centre of ensuring effective compliance interacting in an environment with a variety of stakeholders. We are therefore looking for someone with strong skills and personality, this requires that you:
- Have an eye for detail and you are able to also take a helicopter view
- Have good writing skills and are able to translate regulatory requirements into understandable policies
- Have 5-7 years of work experience, preferably within a financial institution and with risk management expertise
- Have preferably a legal/ regulatory background, through education and/or working experience.
- Can work independently and organise your own work
- Are an energetic, pro-active person and you get things done from peers
- Are curious, have an open mind set and get enthusiastic about reinventing yourself and compliance
- Are constructive critical and collaborative in your professional interaction
- Have an academic work and thinking level
- Are proficient in English and Dutch, both verbally and in writing.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to building effective compliance in ABN AMRO. You can broaden and deepen your knowledge of Compliance, get to know all facets of managing an international department and you will build an extensive network of stakeholders both in- and outside of ABN AMRO.
