Do you enjoy leading M&A projects? Are you a good sparring partner for the Executive Board (ExBo)? Do you aspire a career at a bank that stands out by banking with a human touch and in a sustainable manner? Do you also have an eye for the strategic perspective? De Volksbank is looking for a Senior Advisor Corporate Finance who wants to make a direct contribution to the bank’s future.

Your role

The Corporate Finance team is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of complex multidisciplinary Corporate Finance projects – including M&A, entailing stakeholder management with all relevant internal bodies (ExBo, Supervisory Board) and external authorities (NLFI, Ministry of Finance, European Central Bank). The team works closely together with internal departments’ senior management and leads the M&A negotiations. To execute our projects we regularly use external advisers, from investment banks to the Big 4 accounting firms.

Corporate Finance projects include the following themes:

  • M&A | our team leads all M&A processes – both acquisitions and divestments – undertaken by de Volksbank; from the initial pitch to completion of the transaction. This includes loan portfolios and share transactions. M&A is an activity that is getting increasing attention within de Volksbank;
  • Corporate Finance | being the Corporate Finance and M&A specialist within de Volksbank, we are requested to contribute ideas towards various related issues such as the reduction of excess liquidity and the development of strategies for the Recovery and Resolution Plan;
  • Privatisation | de Volksbank is wholly owned by the Dutch State, on the assumption that the bank will be privatised in the future. This subject is being discussed with the ExBo, Supervisory Board, our shareholder NLFI and the Ministry of Finance. In terms of content and process, we take the lead, not only now in discussions about possible exit strategies, but also at a later stage when the privatisation process is carried out.

Your responsibilities:

  • You manage important content and process-related components of Corporate Finance projects. You report the progress to – and determine the follow-up steps with – the Head of Corporate Finance
  • You prepare documents (memos, presentations) for internal decision-making by, for example, the ExBo and Supervisory Board
  • You unravel complex issues and reduce them to their essence to speed up decision-making
  • You prepare financial valuations (including DCF and DDM) and coordinate and review external financial valuations
  • You guide trainees and/or junior advisers in the projects as well as in their development
  • You analyse market developments and proactively identify new opportunities for de Volksbank, partly on the basis of your own network.

Your work environment – how and where you work

The Corporate Finance team (3 employees) is a close-knit team consisting of a Head of Corporate Finance, senior adviser (vacancy) and a medior advisor, often supplemented by interns or trainees. The Corporate Finance team is part of the Strategy Department. Within de Volksbank, the latter is responsible for providing the ExBo with advice on strategy, innovation and corporate finance projects, and consists of a relatively young team of some 15 employees. To carry out its projects, the Corporate Finance team can rely on the expertise and capacity of the entire Strategy Department.

And, as far as your work-life balance is concerned, we have a flexible working policy, so you will work both from home and in the office. Peaks in workload are bound to occur. However, together we not only ensure that your range of tasks matches what you want and are able to do at that moment, but also that you are able to combine your work well with your personal life. Because de Volksbank promotes banking with a human touch.

Your qualities

  • An academic Master's degree, preferably in Economics / Finance / Business Administration or related technical field
  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience in a similar environment, investment bank, corporate finance advisory or consultancy firm, preferably in the financial services sector. Experience with loan portfolio acquisitions is a plus
  • Excellent analytical and financial skills and affinity with financial modelling
  • Above average command of Excel & PowerPoint
  • Colleagues like working with you. You have a customer-oriented attitude, are committed and have a sense of responsibility and organisational sensitivity. With your mediation skills, you know how to get people moving. You are flexible, communicative and know how to present yourself well
  • The ability to work independently. You have a strong 'getting things done' attitude. You are able to take decisions independently and to defend your position, but at the same time you are aware of the various interests at stake and are able to weigh them up well
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

What we offer

  • The salary range is € 77.078 – € 118.582, based on a 40-hour contract, including a 13th month salary and holiday allowance
  • A personal development budget of € 750 per year in addition to the standard training opportunities
  • Flexible working with a budget of € 600 every 5 years to set up a home office that meets the health and safety requirements, plus a home working allowance of € 40 per month
  • Attention for your employability (vitality and career)
  • NS Business Card (2nd class)
