At a glance

Are you ready to lead a team of talented AI and Data professionals? We are looking for a new Head of Artificial Intelligence (m/f/x) who shares our view on sustainability and inclusive banking. In this role you will guide the overall AI strategy of the bank (in collaboration with local departments), identify and launch valuable AI opportunities across all of ABN AMRO, and support the Strategy & Innovation department on all data and AI topics.

The AI team consists of ±15 broadly skilled data scientists, engineers, and AI translators. The team has 3 main activities: (1) It drives the AI strategy across ABN AMRO, in close alignment with other departments and centres of expertise; (2) it supports ABN AMRO’s innovation initiatives on all data related topics; and (3), it acts as a fire-starter team that identifies new AI use cases across the bank and initiates them together with local departments. Examples include our work on the impact of COVID-19, improvements in the detection of terrorism financing, and the receipt scanner of Tikkie.

Your job

As the Head of AI, you’ll manage the AI team of ±15 data professionals, serving across ABN AMRO. You’ll also take part of the Data & Analytics Circle, the central organ guiding all data & analytics capabilities across the bank. Your responsibilities range from developing your team, to creating broad executive support for the AI strategy and its execution.

You and your team:

  • Build a team of exceptional talent through strong recruiting and screening
  • Grow the capabilities of your team through effective coaching, professional development, and training
  • Effectively allocate development capacity and skillsets across our innovation initiatives, strategy efforts, and AI use cases
  • Build strong relationships across the extended leadership of ABN to create support for your strategy, identify new AI opportunities, and optimize for maximum impact
  • Improve the (Advanced) analytics and AI operating model, through direct contribution as well as setting bank-wide examples
  • Partner with other departments across the bank to launch new AI use cases
  • Manage performance of the team

Working environment

At the Strategy & Innovation department (S&I), we play a central role in defining and executing ABN AMRO’s (corporate) strategy and related innovation agenda. The department consists of functional units in Strategy, Corporate Development, Venturing, Group Economics and three innovation-related units, Innovation Process & Design, Innovation Technology, and Innovation Lab.

Our Innovation Technology department is responsible for (1) the development of solutions with the innovation initiatives in the Innovation Lab, (2) driving the adoption of new technologies across the bank, and (3) acting as a centre of expertise for technology and data related topics across Strategy & Innovation. Next to Artificial Intelligence, the department consists of 2 other teams: Tech Enablement is responsible for our cloud platform, architecture, process & project enablement, as well as our tech vision. The Engineering team is responsible for software development related activities within Strategy & Innovation.

The Innovation Centre is an open and lively space at the heart of ABN AMRO, where we connect with the world inside and outside the bank. At Strategy Innovation, we bring committed and engaged intrapreneurs, tech experts, engineers, data scientists, designers, bankers, and innovation professionals together to work on the future of ABN AMRO. Your profile

The ideal candidate is a proven leader with a proven track record of implementing valuable AI solutions:

  • Strategic thinker, proven ability to create a value-focused strategy with broad alignment across senior stakeholders; strong analytical and structured thinking
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to get things done in a complex stakeholder environment, and can easily connect with a large variety of stakeholders
  • Proven track record of taking your teams to a high level of performance
  • High affinity with data and AI, able to engage on AI topics across the chain from engineers to executives.
  • Results driven and has a strong entrepreneurial drive
  • Fluent in English, ideally also in Dutch

You will further stand out if:

  • You have a high affinity with technology and innovation beyond AI
  • You have experience developing and implementing learning and career paths
  • You have experience in innovation and/or banking
  • You have an entrepreneurial or (management) consulting background
