The European Head of Global Execution Services reports to the Global Director, Global Execution Services.

Context of the Job

• GES is a department which services clients access to global derivatives, equities, commodities and FX markets to complement the clearing services of ABN AMRO Clearing Bank N.V.;
• GES clients include Professional Trading Groups (HFT, Market Makers & Day Trading Proprietary Trading Groups), Corporate Hedgers, Funds & Institutional clients;
• GES has a dependency and strong working relationship with the following departments: Risk, Compliance, Commercial Support, Relationship Management and IT;
• GES provides the following products/services to its clients: Direct Market Access (DMA), Sponsored Access, Member Hosting and Advanced Execution Services (AES);
• GES is a complex department due to governance and controls that need to be in place to protect the market infrastructure from disorderly markets. This is made more complex by the fragmentation of trading venues and competitive nature of the DMA & Automated Trading Industry.

The mission is to provide a service that clients use to access global derivative, securities, commodities and FX markets using the memberships of ABN AMRO, or where they access markets via infrastructure provided by ABN AMRO. This also includes facilitating access to markets where ABN AMRO does not carry membership, i.e. via 3rd party broker relationships.

Your job

Manage, organize and control the GES activities of ABN AMRO Clearing in Europe. The role covers activities that take place throughout Europe via the European GES hub which is located in London and Amsterdam. Close cooperation and collaboration between the GES US and Asia are essential. The activities involve: client connectivity, support and control. The role includes coordinating the provision of GES to new exchanges, new broker networks, new ISV’s, and the implementation of new business, new business models, products and services.

Key result areas
• Manage and control processes, procedures, and staff in relation to GES;
• Member of the Client Acceptance and Risk Appetite Committee (CARAC);
• Member of the Global GES management team.
• Encourage and promote new GES business in conjunction with local and international sales and account management teams;
• Manage the process of implementing new GES business;
• Work with the other heads of GES (Currently Asia and Chicago) on Global issues;
• Responsibility for the GES Europe budget and P+L;
• Identify any GES opportunities in Europe;
• Manage relationships with vendors and exchanges in-order to enhance and expand GES business with them in Europe;
• Responsibility for SOR and Algo functionality including testing and controlled release to Prod;
• Manage the GES functional support Manager and Electronic Client Solutions team lead in Europe;
• Work with the Global head of GES on developing our strategy;
• Ensure the Global head of GES is informed of progress / issues etc.;
• Ensure that senior management informed on issues, situations as they arise;
• Be proactive and up to date in the expansion of ideas, and services for GES initiatives;
• Attend industry events as required;
• Ensure good communication between GES and Compliance / Reg Reporting on any related issues;
• Ensure good communication between GES and the Agile GRID;
• Communicate with risk on any issues or concerns relating to the GES clients;
• Produce related GES documents as required;
• Travel as required.

ABN AMRO UK is part of the Corporate Banking business line and operates the following businesses in the UK:

• Corporate and Institutional Banking which includes Corporate Banking, Clearing, Global Markets - Sales & Trading and Financial Institutions
• Commercial Banking which includes Asset Based Finance and International Desk, which provides transactional banking services

Our business lines are supported by a number of functions such as Risk, Compliance, Legal, IT, Finance (Including Tax), Business Management and Human Resources. We currently employ approx. 380 people in the UK.

Your profile

Required level and content of education

  • Ideally degree educated, or a strong academic record to at least GCSE and/or A Level standard (including mathematics)

Required employment experience / skills

  • 10 Years Experience within the Electronic Trading Industry
  • 5 Years at a Management Level within the Electronic Trading Industry
  • Leadership skills – the ability to motivate employees and to present a positive image of the bank
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Analytical mind-set
  • Creative way of thinking
