Your job

Within the Corporate Finance department, you are, together with the rest of the team members, responsible for both the origination and execution of M&A transactions and other strategic advisory assignments focusing on a broad range of client sectors with the Consumer and Retail industry.

You monitor and analyse general market and sector trends, the performance of companies within the sector and help identify advisory opportunities such as mergers, acquisitions and disposals, restructurings, and event-related capital raisings. As an Associate Director, you form an integral part of transaction teams and participate in the full execution process of complex mergers, acquisitions or disposals, including valuation analysis, co-ordination of due diligence, and deal negotiations, with your own responsibilities within the Deal Teams, and responsibility for junior team members. Within the integrated deal and origination teams, you identify transaction opportunities, prepare and present client proposals, pitch books and industry updates as well as advice to the client in respect to M&A and capital market related events.

Apart from our Corporate Finance team, we work closely together with Equity Capital Markets, Structured Finance and Coverage bankers within the firm in order to fully optimize the cross-selling potential. You are in daily contact with the different parties involved in the process such as buyers/sellers, shareholders, management teams, supervisory boards, other financial advisory firms (e.g. accountants, consultancy firms) and lawyers. Furthermore, you are responsible to ensure a smooth process, taking ownership of o.a. the preparation of marketing materials, management presentations, due diligence coordination and data room management.

You are an essential member of the Consumer & Retail team within Corporate Finance. Working alongside senior team members, you help build strong advisory relationships with leading companies by combing sector and financial knowledge with your interpersonal skills. The materials you develop will often be used in dialogue with CEOs, CFOs and Heads of Business Development. As a key team member, you also contribute to the team’s business development activities including sector deep-dives, developing product knowledge and best practices.

Working environment

The ABN AMRO Corporate Finance team helps corporates, private equity firms, and financial institutions to reach their strategic goals by combining our in-depth sector knowledge with financial expertise. Our clients range from larger (stock-listed) companies with a global footprint to SMEs that operate more locally. We advise in the field of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), public offers, fairness opinions, valuations, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), share issuances and capital structuring and financing solutions. We are a market leader in the Benelux, and are present and growing in the main financial hubs in Northwest Europe.

The Corporate Finance department of C&IB consists of more than 60 professionals divided over six sector teams and a Capital Structuring and Advisory (CSA) team, based at the HQ of ABN AMRO in Amsterdam. Internationally, you co-operate with the Bank’s local Corporate Finance partners in Germany and France. You will become a member of the Consumer & Retail team, covering clients within Food, Retail, Consumer and Agri Commodities sectors.

Your profile

You have a keen interest in and preferably experience in Corporate Finance and the Consumer & Retail sectors. Yoy are a passionate, hard-working professional with an eye for our clients' needs. You have integrity, a quantitative mind and strong analytical skills, preferably within the field of corporate finance.

You have strong analytical skills, including financial analysis and modelling, combined with process management skills. You're are able to execute assignments independently as well as interact directly with clients when it comes to day-to-day matters. You are proficient in preparing advisory presentation materials for senior management and are capable to lead project teams on a day-to-day basis and coach junior deal team members.

You combine your commercial drive with a carefully balanced appetite for risk, contributing to the team's growth in a responsible and sustainable manner. You're a team player with a broad perspective. You are highly productive and always deliver quality. Working well under pressure, you have the ability to multi-task and excel in an environment with short and constantly changing deadlines.

• 5+ years of experience within banking (preferably in Investment Banking or related fields), professional services and/or strategy consulting
• Strong capabilities in financial modelling and valuation
• Excellent communication, presentation and marketing skills
• Interest in operating in an international environment
• Relationship driven with affinity for client-facing roles and the ability to leverage relationships with targets, clients, bankers, financial sponsors etc.
• Entrepreneurial and with a self-starting approach
• Accurate and precise in preparing analysis and presentations, taking ownership
• Excellent interpersonal skills. Team player and effective stakeholder manager
• Keen interest in and preferably experience in the Food & Retail, Consumer and Agri Commodities sectors.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).
