Platform Engineer

de Volksbank is currently seeking a skilled Platform Engineer to join our team. As a Platform Engineer, you are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our digital banking platform.

About the role
Up to 2000 customer contacts per minute via smartphone or our websites! You ensure that the systems always keep running. You will have a big say in how to do that! Most transactions nowadays take place via smartphones and the Internet. Without our systems, it would be impossible for the customers of our brands to arrange their payments, check their balance or, for example, transfer money to their savings account. We sometimes have up to 2000 customer contacts per minute. Our team's applications help us to guarantee the continuity and security of those transactions. We also manage systems through which other teams can run their web services / micro services. As a team, you ensure that these systems remain up and running 24/7.

After the daily stand-up, you will start solving backlog items. For example, you come up with solutions to monitor the security of the applications. Or, you might focus on the automation of management tasks or implementing adetailed idea of ​​a direct colleague, and calibrate with platform engineers and development engineers. You are also the 'officer of the day' one working day a week. This entails solving incidents, if needed with the help of colleagues.

Developments in Finance are moving at lightning speed. Think of the Instant Payments system, where amounts are credited to the recipient's account within five seconds, also at another bank. Banking systems will increasingly be built from microservices, enabling us to release very quickly and provide the customer with new functionalities. About the team
You are part of the agile team DevOps Engineers. We often work from home, but like to meet weekly as a team at our office in Den Bosch. Together with the team and an IT architect, you ensure that de Volksbank's systems remain up and running at all times. We work closely together with our Product Owner on this and the entire team is involved. This is necessary as it's the only way to resolve malfunctions as quickly as possible. In addition, we all have a standby shift (no more than once every five weeks), where we can be reached outside office hours to resolve incidents. Within the team we like to spar with each other and talk to each other about matters if necessary. We work in an informal atmosphere; we like to be informed about each other's ups and downs and organize outings.

Responsibilities:

• Designing, implementing and maintaining a scalable, reliable and secure infrastructure that powers our digital banking platform;
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that the platform meets the requirements of various business units;
• Automating manual processes and developing tools that improve efficiency and scalability;
• Monitoring system performance and taking corrective action to ensure optimal uptime and performance;
• Managing and maintaining system security, including access control and vulnerability management;
• Staying up-to-date on emerging technologies and industry trends, and providing recommendations for improvement.

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure design, or a related field
• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python or Java
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
