
Legal Counsel Payments & Data & Innovation

Role and responsibilities ;
- You will work on product development and innovations, with a focus on payments and data;
- You proactively analyse market developments and new legislation and regulations and translate these into practical legal guidance and advice with impact analyses;
- You draft, review and negotiate payment contracts and European tenders for payment products;
- You maintain standardized documentation and terms & conditions, and work on an international rollout of harmonized products by timely engaging legal colleagues in ING's network;
- You collaborate with various stakeholders within the bank involved in payments, data, innovations and development of existing products;
- You share and lay down knowledge in different forms and through different means, depending on the audience, and you provide specialist training for internal clients; and
- You contribute to the drafting of bank policies.
How to succeed ;
- a Master's Degree in Dutch (or another EU jurisdiction) Law ;
- affinity with financial services and corporate banking products, more specifically with payment products;
- 0-3 years experience as in-house counsel, lawyer or legal consultant;
- willingness to learn analysing (international) financial regulation, making impact analyses and advising on implementation projects; and
- excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Who are we?
We are the Payments & Data & Innovation team of approximately 9 lawyers consisting of the payment experts as well lawyers who provide innovation and data (protection) support to ING business. The team is part of the larger General Legal Affairs (approximately 40 lawyers) advising our stakeholders on a number of corporate topics such as KYC/AML, market abuse, competition law, regulatory affairs, internal investigations, procurement contracts, IP and IT law, privacy etc . We have a strong passion for the legal profession and support our internal clients with product development, transactions and incidents. We participate in legal committees of (international) banking consultative bodies. In addition we translate new laws and regulations into practice and our department is a legal centre of expertise for our legal colleagues in other jurisdictions in which ING operates.
As strategic partner in business we are in constant dialogue with our commercial colleagues and with each other. We work together closely, debating with and challenging colleagues and sharing knowledge with each other by both informal and formal means. In this way we are able to benefit as much as possible from shared knowledge and experience, lessons learned and best practices. We share our expertise and knowledge in respect of new developments as broadly through the ING network as possible.
We believe that it is important that our business is up to date with the legal ins-and-outs of the products with which they work. We keep them up to date with all the latest developments through quarterly newsletters, one on one meetings, learn and lunch sessions etc. We also offer internal clients a comprehensive training package with e-learnings, webcasts and classroom sessions. Therefore, presentation skills are also important.
