Data Engineer

The opportunity

ING Tech Netherlands is building a state-of-the-art Data Lake. An ambitious project based on technologies like IBM InfoSphere (DataStage and Information Governance Catalogue), Oracle Exadata, Netezza and Cognos. At the core of the data lake is the platform on which it is built on.

We have three platform teams that are responsible for maintaining and upgrading the infrastructure through which the Data Management department and its customers down the lane get their data.

We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer who would like to be part of one of the platform teams who are responsible for the Data Distribution Portal (DDP).

The connections through which the customers get their data from sources are maintained by the team as well. The department is moving towards a self-service interface for the customers, but until this is finished maintaining the existing connections are part of your responsibility as well.

The current responsibilities of the team are:

• Configuring and maintaining data connections for customers which is custom built
• Deploying both, the application(s) and its connections to different environments by using Apache NiFi, Microsoft Azure, Ansible
• Writing, upgrading, maintaining, and testing, their applications and utilities by using Java, Bash, Groovy
• Maintaining the internal standards concerning Risk and Security using ING specific tools and applications
• Monitoring the flow of data and the functionality of the application and system it’s running on using ELK Stack, log4all, Prometheus, Grafana

Currently the team is migrating their application from an older environment to an Apache NiFi environment. Knowledge of the platform is not a must.

The team

The team works agile with different environments, applications, protocols and languages (scripting or otherwise), so we are looking for someone who is flexible and can learn relatively quickly and understand new information well.

Due to the nature of the application, getting data from many different sources which is then provided to our customers in a standardized way, you will be in touch with many different teams within and sometimes outside of the company.

Having a good feel for computers, networks and a sense of humor is also very important.

Currently the team is completely Dutch and is in Amsterdam. The team works at the office every Tuesday and Thursday, has lunch together, and the workdays at the office are oftentimes followed by an afterwork ‘pilsje’.

Together with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Data engineer in similar environments, we expect you to have had experience working with the following tools, techniques and way of working:

• Apache NiFi, Microsoft Azure, Ansible
• Java, Bash, Groovy
• ELK Stack, log4all, Prometheus, Grafana
• Agile WOW
• Good communication skills
• Bachelor or Master related to IT.
