
Associate Structured Export Finance - Focus on Middle East and Africa
The vacancy concerns a Product Finance III position within the Structured Export Finance team based in Amsterdam. You will be working in front office within a team of 13 dedicated professionals, where you will be supporting and leading the origination, structuring, execution and monitoring of medium to long term export finance transactions - mostly sustainable / social deals - for a specific portfolio of clients with focus on borrowers in Africa and Middle East. The position involves active contact with clients and prospects, export credit agencies, banks, technical and legal advisors as well as cooperation with internal functions such as Credit Risk Management, Legal, Operations, and Sector teams. It may also involve leading or supporting certain projects, and some travel will also be required e.g. to meet with African sovereigns.
Organizational context:
Structured Export Finance is part of Lending within ING Wholesale Banking. The SEF global network consists of units located in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Singapore, Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo with a total staff of approximately 50 professionals. The SEF Amsterdam team is responsible for the Dutch, UK and Nordic (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway) export markets as well as the Africa and Middle East import markets.
Responsibilities:
As Associate your key responsibilities will include:
- Support the developing and maintaining of client relationships with (i) importers/borrowers in emerging markets with a focus on Middle East and Africa, (ii) exporters of capital goods and related services (iii) Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) in the exporting countries in order to mitigate the political and commercial risks involved in export financings and (iv) semi-governmental agencies engaged in trade promotion
- Support the active prospecting / pursuing of new transaction opportunities via contacts with internal and external stakeholders and networks. Take an active role in the planning and executing of marketing activities within the Africa and Middle East markets
- Prepare Letters of Interest and Term Sheets
- Prepare credit reviews and new applications and interact with risk management for the credit approval process.
- Assist in structuring and concluding (complex) transactions, participate in negotiations of loan documents, interact with all parties involved in the financing package, coordinate the fulfillment of conditions precedent etc.
- Assist in and follow-up on leads and queries from other units within the SEF global network.
- Manage/monitor relevant part of the existing portfolio transactions, process clients’ amendment and waiver requests, prepare annual credit reviews and achieve internal approvals.
- Act as first point of contact for support functions (Loan Admin, Risk, Compliance) and clients regarding operational issues concerning our SEF portfolio.
- Assist in performing research queries in markets/technologies/regulatory frameworks.
- Monitor and set up internal processes as required.
Qualification Requirements:
- Committed and highly commercially minded professional with attention to detail and ability to work proactively and independently in a structured way
- A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant work experience in export/ project finance and/or credit/ banking regulatory related environment
- University degree in e.g. finance, engineering or law
- Self-critical with demonstrated ability to perform under tight deadlines
- Ability to swiftly identify the key issues (including legal/technical aspects) in transaction structures
- Good communicator with interpersonal skills / team player
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English (verbal and in writing) is a must; another language is a plus
