Sr. Backend Engineer

ING is looking for an experienced on-site backend engineer who will build the backbone of the mortgage orientation tools of ING, working in a distributed system environment (using microservices) and being able to implement, test, deploy, monitor, and support our APIs at the Digital Sales Tribe of Retailing Bank.

ING Bank’s Mortgage Orientation squad and we are responsible for developing the orientation tools to help customer to find the best mortgage for their new or current house. We build our libraries with JavaScript and our APIs with Java and Spring Boot, deployed over OpenShift using Kubernetes. Curious? You are

A highly motivated engineer who likes to work in a multidisciplinary team of engineers and business colleagues. Next to your work in the squad, you also like to contribute to the mastery of other engineers and improve the way of work within ING.

You are a proficient back-end engineer, able to code following the best practices when coding, able to implement, understand and use patterns and designing aligned with the SOLID principles. You can design distributed systems in a resilient manner, and you are a skillful communicator.

You have great analytical skills and conceptual understanding. You are able to quickly understand new technical concepts and technology and you have a strong interest in, and vision of, the latest trends in software development and technology. Your English in speaking and writing is fluent and you are a team player who likes to join the social events of the squad and ING organization.

What we're looking for in a Sr. Backend Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field.
• 5-8 years of software engineering experience with a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
• You are experienced either with RDBMS data stores and NoSQL databases (at least Cassandra)
• Strong skills working in a full-stack environment with rest APIs with both software development skills and experience in the design and development of secure and high-performance applications.
• Having good experience in web testing stacks: Junit, Mockito, and WireMock.
• Familiar with Continuous Integration tools like GIT, Azure DevOps, OpenShift, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in Front-end and Back-end design patterns and architecture.
• Familiarity with Microservices strategies and Service Mesh concepts.
• Fluent in English (written and verbal).
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience in Agile / Scrum and Kanban.
