The opportunity

A highly organized and delivery-oriented Business Manager reporting to the Global Chief Procurement Officer at ING Bank.

As a Business Manager you will take on a wide range of responsibilities, serving as the “right hand” of the CPO in his daily responsibilities for the Procurement Function. You will operate on a strategic, tactical and operational level, handling everything from acting as an advisor to the CPO, preparing management meetings, organizing offsites, drafting key communication and coordinate the budgeting process. You will also be the linking pin for key partners like Corporate Secretariat, and other business managers.

This position provides a broad insight across the global ING organization and requires someone who combines common sense, curiosity and maturity with excellent judgment, discretion, and integrity. The ideal candidate is a self-directed executor who helps orchestrate progress effectively in front of and behind the scenes. Strong communication skills are a must as well as being comfortable with ambiguity and high work pressure.

Role and responsibilities

You will be in contact with many different colleagues from in- and outside the Procurement domain to get things done. It is a “solo” role, but also one of the best roles to get to know ING in all of its aspects, and will offer you plenty of development opportunities ranging from sharpening your organizational skills and stakeholder management capabilities, to developing into a strong advisor and communicator. You will also have a lot of international interactions with the local Heads of Procurement and their teams.

1. Advise and support the CPO in the execution of the long and short term agenda.

  • Support CPO in accomplishing his objectives
  • Help position the CPO internally and help to ensure his priorities are being followed.
  • Prepare his presentations and briefings.
  • Pro-actively prepare meetings, plan and communicate deadlines to delivering parties, preempt questions from CPO by intensive interaction with stakeholders, and pick up his e-mails where appropriate. In short: Save the CPOs time!

2. Proactively provide support to the Procurement MT

  • Gather, analyze and interpret business information in order to advise on financial, business or people decisions.
  • Manage the Procurement MT meeting agenda, minute the outcomes and follow up on actions.
  • Work closely with Finance to monitor and steer the Financials of the department.
  • Build a trusted relationship with the management team members to support positive team dynamics and good collaboration.

3. Proactively liaise with and provide support to colleagues in and outside the CPO domain

  • Build an extensive network with key stakeholders and have regular contact to keep them informed about developments.
  • Prepare necessary background for country visits, coordinate the agenda with the local team.
  • Support and follow up on the resolution of request from the Procurement community towards the CPO.
  • Take on ad hoc projects as required.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience as a Business Manager
  • Exposure to Procurement is desired but not essential
  • Very strong Excel skills (daily usage)
  • Fluent in English (verbally and written). Knowledge of the Dutch or French language is a plus but not required
  • Able to think 3 steps ahead, predict outcomes and understand how various activities, programmed and priorities influence/ are dependent on one another
  • Clear, concise thinker and communicator with the ability to synthesize information quickly, highlight key take-aways and disseminate actionable insights
  • Willing to take ownership for consistent and timely delivery of CPO commitments
  • A ‘can do’ mentality, proactive, resourceful, highly organized and structured way of working
  • High organizational sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships and manage networks
  • Manage confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Attuned to the agendas and needs of others but able to challenge and escalate when appropriate
  • Able to work independently, multi-task, and deal with time pressure in an ambiguous environment
