Feature Engineer – Working Capital Solutions

The Working Capital Solutions IT area is responsible for the design, modification and maintenance of the software solutions used to process Receivables Finance and Supply Chain Finance products. The business is active in Europe and Asia and has a very solid market presence. The IT department is mostly based in Amsterdam and is part of the Trade Tribe of the ING Wholesale Banking domain.

At ING we are in a dynamic and intensive journey to further digitalize the bank. Here, feature engineers play a crucial role by bridging wishes and high-quality solutions within a hybrid ecosystem of IT applications and customer journeys. This includes addressing a variety of activities, from conceptualization of features to their tests. The role is central to making and communicating design decisions, being them regarding enhancing in the existing platforms, introducing the next generation technologies or improving the reliability of our end-to-end solutions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of Role:

As feature engineer, you are a key player in the cooperation between product owners, engineers, customer journey experts and other stakeholders. Your holistic view as well as your knowledge of both business and IT are crucial in the translation of requirements into features and stories that deliver customer value as early as possible. You define and align the delivery roadmaps between squads (from same or from different Tribes) and from vendors, in order to have end-to-end delivery, tests and releases well-orchestrated. You help managing dependencies and impediments in an efficient way. You are recognized as subject matter expert in the domain you work, by both IT and business stakeholders.

Your responsibilities:

· From a strategic business & IT context point of view, you define and deliver detailed implementation roadmaps for epics and features. You can slice and refine these roadmaps to the level of concrete stories to be picked up by the squads.

· Together with relevant stakeholders (e.g. product owners, product area lead and asset owners), you manage the priority of features with a strong MVP (Minimum Viable Product) mindset. You assign the features (and underlying user stories) to the relevant squads and lead the accurate feature definition and estimation.

· You identify and manage dependencies for features and epics across different tribes and business units. Often dealing with complex environments having their own roadmaps.

· You demonstrate understanding of IT concepts and have significant knowledge of the IT landscape and (new) technologies. You guide and challenge the development engineers when making implementation choices.

· You design and execute changes in an end-to-end setting, covering all functional and non-functional aspects of software applications and their interfaces.

· Together with engineers, you coordinate the necessary vendor-built software delivery, testing and defect management.

· You are able to translate new product / services needs into required IT solutions and are able to grasp business opportunities from new technology solutions. You think and act globally.

· You make sure that the adoption of ING’s standard technologies will be part of the designs and deliveries that you are responsible for.

· You demonstrate the ability to operate independently, proactively and diligently on the assigned tasks to complete them on-time and first-time-right.

· You demonstrate a history of continuous improvement, personal development, and outstanding team contribution.

Your profile:

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering with strong IT background.

· 5+ years of experience as solution architect or technical project manager, with proven track of international and complex projects.

· Hands-on experience with software system’s specification, design and integration, either as business analyst, solution architect or software engineer.

· Extensive knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and API design. Knowledge of ING’s touchpoint components and strategy is a plus.

· Relevant experience with end-to-end testing coordination and execution.

· Experience with adopting software architecture design best practices, together with efficient usage of software verification & validation techniques.

· Excellent communication skills (in English): strong presentation skills (telling – selling); mastery in writing skills (at different levels of abstraction/detail); and ability to challenge, influence or convince others through fact-based arguments.

· Extremely results-oriented, always striving for maximal consumer value as early as possible.
