The opportunity

Are you an enthusiastic and pragmatic lawyer with an affinity for and experience in the areas of corporate, project and leveraged finance? The team

Our department consists of approx. 43 lawyers. The team Sectors and Lending consists of 18 lawyers with different backgrounds. We support our internal clients in product development, lending transactions and incidents. Our team is responsible for drafting and automating ING’s bilateral standardized loan documentation and we contribute to various innovation initiatives. We participate in legal committees of (international) banking associations and are responsible for implementing new laws and regulations in procedures and templates.

As a strategic partner in business, we are always talking to our local and international commercial colleagues. We work together closely, verify our analyses and share knowledge with each other in an informal manner. By doing this we maximally benefit from the knowledge and experience gained, lessons learned and best practices. We use our expertise and knowledge about new developments to the greatest extent possible. We do this via quarterly updates, one-on-one discussions, lunch & learn sessions etc.

We find it important that our business is aware of the legal ins and outs of the products they work with. We also provide a variety of training sessions via e-learning, webcasts and (virtual) classroom training, so presentation skills are appreciated.

Roles and responsibilities

In your role you will be working together with colleagues from various backgrounds, where you will be responsible for:

  • drafting, reviewing and negotiation of complex (international) finance contracts and security documentation;

  • advising internal clients on financing structures and legal issues and questions relating thereto;

  • working in deal teams comprising colleagues from different functions within the bank;

  • working with different stakeholders within the bank in relation to the development of new or changes to existing products;

  • creating and maintaining standard documentation;

  • develop and support legal and front office innovation initiatives;

  • key role in developing and maintaining (internal) client relationships and those with internal and external specialists; and

  • contributing to pool of specialist of knowledge and providing specialist training for internal clients.

You are:

You have:

  • a university degree in Dutch law or equivalent foreign degree;

  • a minimum of 4 years’ experience as in-house counsel or lawyer;

  • proven knowledge of and affinity with financial services, in particular in the field of corporate and structured finance; experience with LMA documentation is a must;

  • excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken). Dutch language skills preferred;

  • experience with or a profound interest in applying technology to the delivery of legal services; and

  • ability to focus on the key risks of a lending transaction.
