Do you want your work to have an impact on financial stability and on the banking sector´s ability to support to sustainable growth? As a supervisor focusing on business model and profitability at DNB, you can do so by leveraging on your analytical and (inter)personal skills in a stimulating and professional environment. You will be at the center of European banking supervision dynamics and will supervise one of the Dutch systemically important banks. You will be part of an intercultural team of European supervisors, in a changing and challenging environment.

This is how to do that as a banking supervisor at DNB

You will be part of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and will work in a Joint Supervisory Team (JST), a team of supervisors from both DNB and the European Central Bank (ECB). The JST’s task is to assess the risks the bank faces and check that the bank is equipped to manage those risks properly. Within the team, your role is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the bank’s business model and profitability based on the methodology of the SSM. In addition, you will identify emerging threats for the business model based on relevant developments such as the rise of Fintech, climate change and macro-economic trends.
Your main responsibilities as a supervisor focusing on business models and profitability will include:

  • You will monitor and assess financial reporting of the bank in the context of its strategy and the macro-economic environment to identify emerging threats for the business model and profitability of the bank;
  • You will have regular meetings with the bank’s (senior) management to discuss among other the bank’s strategy and financial performance. In these meetings your role is to ask critical question to understand underlying challenges the bank is facing in these areas;
  • You will participate in investigations to gain a deeper understanding of the business model and drivers of profitability;
  • You will share your findings with your colleagues from the JST and/or within DNB through (written) analyses or presentations to allow banks’ risk profiles to be assessed consistently and facilitate decision-making about necessary supervisory measures to be taken;
  • You will follow up on recommendations shared with the bank;
  • You will design strategies to influence the bank to reduce its risks and strengthen weaknesses in its business model;
  • You will contribute to DNB’s sustainability ambitions to integrate climate-related and environmental (C&E) risks in its banking supervision, for example by monitoring the progress of the bank to comply with the ECB Guide on C&E risk.

Where will you do that?

As a business model and profitability expert you will be based at DNB in Amsterdam. DNB is part of the European Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), through which the ECB is ultimately responsible for supervision of all euro area banks. The ECB directly supervises the largest European banks, the Significant Institutions (SIs).
You will work in the European Banks Supervision Division (EUBA), which is engaged in supervising Significant Institutions. Your team is tasked with the supervision of one of these banks in the Netherlands. The JST consists of around 20 professionals, of which two third is based in Amsterdam, with various nationalities. Working for the SSM means that you will have to regularly travel abroad (e.g. to the ECB in Frankfurt) for training, on-site inspections and other activities.

At DNB we work in a hybrid manner. Our office in Amsterdam is our home base, the place where we meet, where we share knowledge and work (together). At the same time, there is also plenty of room to choose a workplace and -time where we can do our work best and where we can add as much value as possible. And of course we ensure that you can also work excellently at home with a laptop, telephone and a good home workplace design.

What will you contribute?

What else are we looking for?

  • You hold a Master’s degree in a relevant area, such as Economics, Finance, Business administration.
  • You have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience gained in the field of e.g. business strategy, banking, (strategy) consulting and/or accounting.
  • You can establish and maintain contacts with relevant stakeholders and are at ease in a multicultural environment.
  • You have experience in setting priorities and working under time pressure.
  • You are able to work with datasets using various supervisory tools.
  • You have an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of the Dutch language, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. If you have no command of Dutch yet, you are willing to learn the language.

The other excellent terms and conditions of employment for this position are:

  • A salary of at least € 3000.-- and a maximum of € 4830.-- gross per month, based on a 36-hour working week. Among other things, the final salary will depend on your expertise and experience.
  • A 13th monthly salary, an 8% holiday allowance calculated on your 13-month salary and a freely disposable personal budget of 5.9% of your 12-months salary.
  • Your pension entitlements will accrue under a career-average scheme including provisional indexation, with a 6.54% employee contribution.
  • Full reimbursement of your public transport commute.
