The opportunity

Are you excited by the opportunity to work towards a positive environmental impact by leveraging the capital markets’ increasing focus on the sustainability performance companies? Investors have increasingly high expectations related to sustainability performance when deciding whether to provide companies with funding. As a result, our clients are recognizing the increasing importance of ESG Ratings, ESG disclosures, and science based climate target setting and are seeking advice on how to ensure their score is accurate and as strong as possible. To meet this demand ING has established an ESG Ratings Advisory service, and are in the process of expanding our capabilities.

The Vice President/Director for ESG Ratings Advisory & Research will be part of ING’s Sustainable Markets team and play a role in expanding our service within Global Capital Markets in collaboration with other members of the Sustainable Markets team, the Debt Capital Markets originators, other sustainability teamsand in coordination with the broader group of stakeholders within the Wholesale Banking franchise. You will have the opportunity to work in a diverse team in an international corporate environment, with exposure to colleagues across ING’s Strategic Products, Sector and Lending teams, predominantly in Europe, but also in the Americas and APAC. For this role, we are seeking an experienced ESG professional with a deep knowledge of ESG Ratings, including the methodologies for making assessments of companies’ performance and the processes for conducting those assessments.

We are seeking to recruit an analytical professional with strong knowledge of ESG ratings, ESG data and data providers, sustainability strategies, reporting methodologies and a vision to work with clients on improving their sustainability profile and ESG rating(s). Knowledge of SRI investing strategies and climate target setting is a plus. By supporting our clients on their transition to become more sustainable we will strengthen our client relationships and opportunities to work with them.

Role and Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for working on all stages of an ESG Advisory & Research mandate, including but not limited to pitching the service to clients, responding to RfPs, project management, ESG research on client performance and advice on how to improve their ESG ratings

  • Advise clients on their ESG ratings, ESG disclosures and climate targets (net zero targets) and the expectations of investors, banks and other stakeholders

  • Support the Sustainable Markets team, for example in structuring sustainable finance transactions linked to ESG ratings or science based climate targets

  • Develop tools to support the growth of the business and the quality of service we can deliver to our clients

  • Identify and craft growth opportunities to strengthen our client relationships through ESG Ratings Advisory & Research

  • Track relevant regulatory initiatives in relation to ESG Ratings and will contribute to ING’s responses to related consultation processes

  • You will feed into and support the broader Sustainability Advisory & Research platform of the bank

Profile

Qualifications / Education:

  • You hold a Master degree or post-graduate degree in Environmental Science/International Relations/Public Policy/Business/Finance or other relevant disciplines (sustainability related academic background is preferred)

Experience / Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience within a leading sustainable/ESG ratings agency or leading sustainability advisor or leading SRI investor, preferably on the ESG research side

  • Detailed knowledge of ESG Ratings Agencies’ methodologies and research processes

  • Detailed knowledge of investor strategies for integrating sustainability into the investment decision making processes

  • Strong understanding of sustainability issuers across the environmental, social and governance themes, including up to date knowledge of the most recent developments and trends

  • Experience and knowledge of financial transactions in debt capital markets, structured finance, credit analysis and/or deal structuring is desirable

  • You are fluent in English (verbal and written)
