Background

An increasing reliance on models within financial sector creates a new type of risk. This risk needs to be managed properly to avoid potential financial and reputational damages and to meet growing regulatory expectations. For that purpose ING is currently strengthening and extending its Model Risk Management (MoRM) team.

MoRM is a fast growing, energetic, international team of highly qualified professionals. Part of it is the Model Risk Oversight (MRO) tribe. MRO develops and rolls out globally the MoRM framework which covers all models used by the ING Bank worldwide.

Your work environment

You are part of the MRO tribe, based in Amsterdam. The MRO tribe consists of three chapters, Framework & Governance, to which this role is allocated, is one of them. The role requires interactions with stakeholders within MoRM, as well as with other departments, including local foreign businesses of ING. The environment that you work is dynamic, professional with fast changing requirements and needs.

Your Job

As a (Junior) Specialist Policy & Governance you will support further development and enhancements of the global MoRM Framework and its consistent application across the organization – on central (headquarters) as well as local (country) level.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting MoRM procedures and guidelines in cooperation with subject matter experts.
  • Supporting MoRM framework embedding by coordinating various processes, such as: model risk governance roll out, model risk assessment in new product approval process, waivers approval and monitoring process.
  • Supporting development and maintenance of MoRM training materials.
  • Supporting senior experts in execution of quality assurance review of policies, procedures, guidelines etc. developed by MoRM and other model risk related policy documents developed within the wider ING organization
  • Contributing to monitoring and maintenance of an inventory of relevant model risk regulations and industry developments/ best practices.
  • Supporting Product Owner with preparing squad planning updates and project progress dashboards to Tribe Lead and senior management.

Your Profile

We are looking for candidates with an academic degree and working experience in a global organization, preferably in the financial services industry. Good communication skills (verbal and in-writing) are crucial for this role. Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities without losing focus from goals and deliverables. Basic knowledge of model risk management is required. Familiarity with methodologies used in non-financial risk area is a big advantage.

Key competencies

  • Ability to draft clear and concise policy documents, formal reports, discussion papers, proposals and executive communications.
  • Good communication skill, being able to convey complex messages in simple ways both orally and in writing.
  • Good listener and interviewer, able to obtain information from subject matter experts and incorporate stakeholders’ feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to build effective working relationships and thrive in a diversified and multicultural work environment.
  • Flexibility to work simultaneously on more than one topic and variety of activities.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills.
  • High degree of independence and pro-active attitude.

Technical skills

  • Analytical skills, e.g. to be able to understand complex information, to extract the essence and translate it into clear definitions and statements.
  • Research skills, to explore and identify new topics and developments relevant to model risk management.
  • Skilled in using MS product suite (word, excel, power point).
  • Excellent English verbal and writing skills.
