The opportunity

This open position is part of the Professional Practice Unit (PPU) within the Corporate Information Risk Management (CIRM) department located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The role is defined as Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Expert within the global Information Risk Management community. The role reports hierarchically to the Head of Corporate IRM (Global Head of NFR IRM).

Roles and responsibilities

Being part of the CIRM/PPU, this role is tasked to define the IT and data risk management framework and methods across all risk domains within ING, and to advice and challenge on consistent implementation thereof in line with Global and EU regulatory requirements.

The above translates to the following (non-exclusive) responsibilities:

  • Follows trends and threats regarding IT and data risks, initiates/contributes to impact assessment and proposes responses for ING

  • Contributes to IRM strategy, providing a roadmap to ensure that capabilities regarding IT and data risk management are aligned with ING’s business goals and with ING’s risk appetite.

  • Defines and maintains the policy, procedures, guidelines and (measurement) methodology for managing IT and data risk in alignment with bank-wide risk appetite.

  • Advices and challenges on design and implementation of IT and data controls to meet the defined policies

  • Advices and challenges IRM colleagues (2nd Line of Defence) to ensure that the IT and data Risk management is executed in a consistent way across the organisation

  • Helps build virtual community and collaboration for data risk management within ING risk community;

  • Performs deep dives on risks in data management (including data quality) and advices on necessary improvements;

  • Delivers risk papers, position papers and guidance is an authoritative artefact guiding the stakeholders to understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision.

  • Prepares and delivers presentations as requested by top management on IT and data risk topics

  • Participates in designated projects, developments or business initiatives, advising on IT and data risks;

  • Drives in delivering and facilitating Corporate IRM’s educational services;

  • Performs and assist in non-financial risk management activities where the requirements arise.

The team

You will be operating in a challenging international environment. As such you will have a/o contacts with professionals within the other NFR Departments, Corporate Compliance, Global IRM and data management community, and other First Line of Defence stakeholders including senior managers and directors.

You have proven ability in IT security, data management and the implementation of legislation & regulations. You are pro-active and energetic, with a passion for combining thinking and doing. As well as having a strong drive to maintain your own expertise, you are keen to actively contribute to further developing and improving the area you work in. You are energized by transferring your expertise to others and are interested in what you can learn from colleagues with other forms of expertise.

We are looking for a motivated colleague who has the following characteristics and capabilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with IT and data risks and controls, IT security, data management (including data quality), relevant legislation & regulations and best practices;

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in Audit or Risk Management in areas that are relevant for IT risk and data management;

  • Experience with the implementation of risk management frameworks within business units and/or head office;

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across both functional and geographical lines;

  • Strong ability to earn trust and respect of clients, colleagues and senior management;

  • Ability to be firm when needed and show flexibility when possible;

  • Excellent analytical skills and sound judgment;

  • University MSc Degree or equivalent, preferably in IT field;

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Would be considered a plus:

  • Having professional education and an international certification for IT security, data management, risk management (e.g. ISC2, ISACA, DAMA accreditations);

  • Having a postgraduate degree in IT audit;

  • Knowledge of Banking business, processes, procedures, systems and associated laws & regulations.
