Site Reliability Engineer – Public Cloud

Our Public Cloud Program aims to help ING to become cloud ready. Within this program our Site Reliability Engineering [SRE] team is looking for an Engineer to join our team of four engineers. As a member of SRE Public Cloud, you spent fifty percent of your time on helping other teams with their public cloud challenges. Think of: setting up environments for proof of concepts like chaos engineering , help teams getting their infrastructure in code and advice teams what cloud resources to consume. The remaining part you spend on research and develop latest (reliability related) technology and on automation for cloud resource provisioning. As SRE Public Cloud, we need your help, experience and vision on reliability topics to work on the technology platforms of tomorrows ING .

What do we, as SREs, currently do?

• We make sure provisioned cloud resources are easy to consume, compliant and reliable
• We create our tools and platforms according to reliability principles
• We reach out to engineers to consult and get feedback
• We educate on reliability and cloud (native) topics
• We care about DevEx when creating platforms

What do we, as SREs, currently not do?

• On-Call for production engineering
• Lift and shift existing services into the cloud

Key responsibilities

• Be part of a global SRE group. Share knowledge, collaborate and contribute to joined projects
• Advise management and architects on reliability and cloud related topics
• Together with your team, realize solutions to reliability problems (using Git, CI/CD, Python, GoLang, HCL, Helm, CRDs, Docker, or just anything that just does the job)
• Research and apply bleeding edge technology to design future solutions
• Be part of a scrum team, participating in scrum ceremonies
• Advocate our concepts and principles during hack-weeks, design-sprints or other events where cloud knowledge is required

What else

Would you like to know what you need to know if you’re up to it? Here’s a list of things that might be helpful fulfilling the job:

• Passionate about reliability, bleeding edge tech, DevOps and open source
• Ok with failure
• Trust on your knowledge and expertise and able to propagate that throughout the organization (from senior management till engineers)
• Willing to teach and advise engineers about reliability
• Experience in on-call duties and incident management (i.e. post mortems)
• Experience with 1+(scripting/programming)language(s). For day to day work we use a lot of Python, Terraform and bash .
• You build-it-you-run-it mentality
• SRE, Chaos engineering, Kubernetes, GitOps, IaC, scalability, are not new terminology for you
