ING is looking for an experienced Senior Back-end Engineer with a drive for continuous improvement, to strengthen the Investments tribe which is one of the key areas withing ING and delivers the vast Investments proposition for both Dutch and Belgium customers. The team

As a Senior Dev Engineer, you are part of a squad of highly skilled engineers within the Investments area. The Senior Dev Engineer ensures to continuously deliver business value across the entire end-to-end application chain together with the squad. With the help of the Agile methodologies, you will support ING in delivering and maintaining quality products to our customers.

Roles and responsibilities

Dev Engineer tasks are analysis, design, building code or configuring a 3rd party software package, deploying, testing and driving Continuous Integration and Delivery improvements.

The Dev Engineer ensures delivery across the end-to-end application chain. He/she understands the complete stack from application to hardware. He/she understands the detailed workflow of the application, expected transactional volumes, the detailed technical behaviour of application servers and databases and the importance of maintaining a high security profile, safeguarding the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of ING data and information assets.

The activities, performed by a Dev Engineer in a Squad, depends on the type of software solution, i.e. own built (API) software versus 3rd party software package. As an engineer you are enthusiastic about acquiring and transferring knowledge to others.

For this function we are looking for a Proficient or Expert engineer who will be part of a development squad that is responsible for development of Investments platform, one of the advanced and complex unified platforms within ING and is strategically very important for ING.

Education and experience:

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software engineering or related fields

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a critical mindset

• Proven track record in backend software development (6+ years)

• Experience working in complex and challenging IT environment

• Experience and thorough understanding of continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines

• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum/Dev/Ops team

• Self-motivation for solving technical and functional challenges

• Strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development (technology in general)

• Have a good understanding of banking domain in general or passionate about learning it

• Leading by example

Communication and soft skills:

• Strong social and communication skills

• Assertive and not afraid to challenge

• Strong team player with experience in working with teams in and across sites

• Willingness to coach and mentor other engineers by sharing knowledge regularly

• Experience or ambition to represent IT topics in bigger forums like conferences, meetups

Technical expertise:

• Strong programming skills in Java 8+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Microservices, Restful APIs, Reactive programming

• Good understanding of databases including RDBMS (Oracle) and NoSQL

• Experience and thorough understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools, and pipelines. We work with Git, Azure Repos, Azure Pipelines, Checkmarx, Azure Artifacts etc.

• Good knowledge and experience with Elasticsearch, JMS(Apache Kafka/ MQ)

• Good knowledge ofLinux Operating System

• Exposure to containerisation (Docker) and microservices architecture

• Focussing on delivering quality over quantity
