Product Owner Touchpoint Platform - Eventbus

We are looking for a Product Owner with a drive to enable ING Engineers globally to speed up their software delivery and create state-of-the-art differentiating business solutions .

Touchpoint Platform is part of ING’s “Think Forward” strategy to become one truly global bank and is a key success factor on our path to become a financial services platform that extends beyond banking. Through our platform, we provide a scalable foundation for digital channels and business solutions and position ING successfully in the new banking ecosystem.

You will be working in the One Platform product area that has as mission to provide a technology foundation that allows engineers to d iscover and seamlessly integrate services across the bank and third parties , into new business solutions for our customers . The product area consists of multiple components like the marketplace, c onsole, API SDK , Service mesh, API Gateway , API Management and E ventbus . These are developed and maintained by the different squads in the One Platform product area. The ambition is to further extend the product area with features like scaffolding wizards, integration with our Global Engineering and integration with Infra platforms (private/public cloud) . This will benefit thousands of engineers within ING that want the most seamless journey s so they can rapidly design, develop, deploy and operate new web services for their business solutions.

T o enable the bank to become a world-wide event-driven bank with a reliable and easy to use real-time event distribution platform , Touchpoint uses a n Eventbus , based on Apache Kafka . The Eventbus is one of the core components of the platform used by many DevOps squads and Engineers in the different countries of ING .

This is what you will do

As a Product Owner , you will work with 2 multi-disciplinary squa d s of developers and ops engineers located in Amsterdam and Bucharest . You will be the representative of t hese squad s , and you will maintain a close relationship with the Product Area Lead, architects, peers, users, and other stakeholders. Furthermore , you will :

• Develop, maintain and own the long-term roadmap for Eventbus and the related components of its ecosystem

• Lead the refinement, planning and development of all new features within the Eventbus domain 

• Constantly refine, develop and enhance user/engineering journeys, product mix, user personas and target audience for the product within ING

• Recognize and generate business cases for product extensions and enhancements. 

• Actively reach out to colleagues and seek broader understanding together with the architect, P roduct Area Lead and lead developers 

• Actively focus on outcomes over outputs and aligns OKRs towards the desired outcomes. 

• Bring approved business cases to life by steering product development and priorities for the product line, taking into account the additional development capacity and investment needs to make it a reality. 

• Constantly update knowledge with the latest developments in real time data streaming to recognize potential value added to ING 

• Continuously work on the balance between stability/efficiency of service and introduction of new features  

• Understand the Touchpoint Platform vision of what is being built to motivate the team with clear goals , by clearly articulating the end value 

• Be the voice of the user , by continuously collect ing and curat ing user s’ feedback that results in actions to further improve products and services

What you will need:

• 3+ years of experience as a product owner/technical lead or relevant professional experience in an agile environment. 

• 5+ years in building sustainable products/platforms, familiarity with SaaS model for a high growth/criticality product 

• Knowledge of one or more open-source distributed services i.e. Kafka, Flink , Cassandra

• Create requirements in the forms of Themes, Epics and Stories and facilitate backlog refinement sessions

• Have an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals

• Clear communication and prioritization skills to manage the expectations of several stakeholders , and timely delivery of commitments

• Challeng e the status quo to improve the current situation by experimenting with different agile processes (e.g., Scrum and Kanban)

• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and in writing)

• S torytelling capability in fluent English, by clearly articulating the rationale and the value when explaining the strategy and goals to large groups

• Listen to our producers and consumers, understand their needs , and find elegant and simple solutions to develop new products and enhance existing ones

• Leverage data and metrics to make informed decisions without getting stuck in trying to make the “perfect” decision
