
Financial Controller
At a glance
The Financial Controller is positioned in the Finance department and reports to the Chief Financial Officer (‘CFO’).
Your job
The CFO will look to this role to help drive forward the improvement to quality and consistency of management information and financial control within UK Finance. In addition, the role may involve deep dive global projects in specified areas as and when required.
The Financial Controller has the following responsibilities:
• Supporting the CFO in ensuring that management information for ABN AMRO Bank N.V., UK Branch is produced in an accurate and timely fashion. This includes preparation and/or review of the MI (performance and the corresponding analysis) requiring an in-depth understanding of the financial drivers for the UK business
• ABN AMRO UK Group reporting
• Ensuring that adequate financial controls are in place, effective and adhered to
• Identifying risks and weaknesses in the current processes and working with the CFO to define and implement improvements on an on-going basis;
• Preparing annual budgets for AABUK business lines and central functions, as allocated
• Direct and indirect budget input into the reporting systems for all UK entities
• Assisting the CFO with oversight and management of the budget transfer process for all UK entities
• Business partner to a diverse range of business lines/central functions, as allocated
• Preparation of regulatory returns
• Broad understanding of the responsibilities of the wider finance function, picking up additional responsibilities during colleague’s absence
• Involvement in/ on discreet global projects
Key Result Areas
• Preparation and/or review of UK wide MI for UK Executive Committee
• Being the finance liaison for allocated support functions and/or business lines as required
• Balance sheet substantiation and reconciliations
• Undertaking and/or reviewing cost accruals and prepayment calculations
• Timely and accurate delivery of cost information to the UK functional heads
• Cost budgeting and forecasting. Ensuring that budgets are accurately reflected in FRAS at all times
• Ensuring that budget transfer process for all UK entities and activities is completed on a timely basis
• Ensuring that the total UK budget used locally for MI purposes fully reconciles to Head Office systems.
• Management of overall SLA budgets in Group reporting systems and ensuring that the overall UK Enablers budget remains flat
• Bank Reconciliations
• Regulatory returns: preparation and submission
• FX position management
• Management of the inter-company accounts, working with various Head Office functions in eradicating breaks
• Providing suitable support to both internal and external audit
• Ad-hoc analysis as required

ABN AMRO UK is part of the Corporate Banking business line and operates the following businesses in the UK:
• Corporate and Institutional Banking which includes Corporate Banking, Clearing, Global Markets - Sales & Trading and Financial Institutions
• Commercial Banking which includes Asset Based Finance and International Desk, which provides transactional banking services
Our business lines are supported by a number of functions such as Risk, Compliance, Legal, IT, Finance (Including Tax), Business Management and Human Resources. We currently employ approx. 380 people in the UK.
Your profile
Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA)
Required employment experience / skills
• Qualified with suitable PQE experience preferably of working with financial services clients for a period of at least 4 years.
• Good understanding and working knowledge of IFRS accounting principles
• Experience with regulatory reporting would be desirable (FCA and BOE reporting)
• Experience of financial control in a medium / large Group environment
• Magnitude / SAP reporting package especially in a subsidiary environment is desirable
• Excellent communication skills with clear evidence of report writing in English.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to scope out projects and identify critical tasks. Production of project plans which in many cases will be across different countries. Strong Excel
• Strong interpersonal skills. The project aspect of this role would likely have an international focus and experience in this environment would be an asset.
• Teamwork and ability to manage competing priorities and challenge the ‘status quo’
• Risk awareness and ability to take initiative to control and mitigate risks
• Ability to work under pressure to strict timelines
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Ability to work with multijurisdictional teams in different locations ensuring that projects are appropriately prioritized and completed to agreed deadlines
