The opportunity

You are part of the BikING initiative for building the digital relationship bank of the future. The aim is to improve our customer- and employee experience for the Account Opening service. The objective is to increase speed of delivery, by introducing customer self-service and accelerating digitalisation as a key driver of this Wholesale Banking priority.

We are looking for a motivated, self-managed Java engineer with a Techno-Functional mindset who will further improve our digital transformation journey, and make our customer experience a fantastic voyage. We are looking for someone with modern day essential engineering skills like innovation, creativity, attention to details, communication and much more. Our solution has front-end Web application, PEGA workflow, Java API’s and varieties of System of Records (SoRs).

The team

You will work in a multidisciplinary autonomous squad following the Agile way of working, to develop and realise the BikING journey. A great stage to shine for any serious end to end product development lifecycle from understanding the business requirements, performing functional analysis, designing technical solutions, development and maintenance. You will work in an international environment in our multidisciplinary squads.

Together with business customer journey experts, solution architects and other DevOps colleagues you build our next generation banking applications. You are responsible and take ownership.

Roles and responsibilities

As a Java Engineer, you will be involved in the design and development of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in one of our agile teams. APIs is a way to easily open-up capabilities and share data. We believe it will help ING to accelerate innovation and collaboration with partners, customers, and platforms to improve customer experiences and create new business models. The key to success is our developer portal at developer.ing.com which enables parties to connect and create value in an easy, secure, and scalable way.

• At least 8 years of work experience in software development with at least 5 years of hands-on Java programming
• Strong knowledge of Java development for internet and mobile solutions. You know the difference between the frameworks and know which to apply depending on the requirements,
• You have competent knowledge in adhering to non-functional requirements of confidentiality, integrity, availability, security, performance, etc.
• You have experience and thorough understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines.
• You are competent in multiple programming languages (for example Java, Scala, and/or Python) to give support on customer-specific problems.
• You keep up to date on the latest technical developments relating to industry standards and best practices.
• You have an agile mind set, fast to adapt constant changes and feeling comfortable with it.
• You are involved in the maintenance of stable products in our teams.
• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• We expect the ability to transfer knowledge back to the ING Bank by holding presentations, workshops, documentation and most important: setting new standards for the ways we do tech

Experience & technical skills

• Experience in designing and building Rest(ful) API’s
• Experience in functional analysis and designing technical solutions
• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Junit
• Experience in creating CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, OpenShift)
• Experience with containerization (docker, docker-compose, Kubernetes)
• Experience with microservices and implementing design patterns
• Experience with system and application monitoring (e.g. Prometheus / Grafana, ELK)
• Knowledge of defining use-cases and creating UML design
• Knowledge of BDD and PACT testing
• Knowledge of Performance Testing with one of the frameworks like nGrinder, Gatling, Apache Jmeter
• Knowledge of OAuth, PKI / certificates / TLS
• Knowledge of message broker(s) and event bus(es) like Apache Kafka, Active MQ
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
