Senior Black Belt / Senior Consultant Operational Excellence

We are looking for a Senior Black Belt who wants to take the lead in guiding the Wholesale Banking organisation towards excellent processes and the continuous improvement culture.

Crucial role in improving processes as a consultant

As an ING Black Belt within the WB Transformation Office you contribute to improve client experience by enabling a high performing organisation with excellent operational end-to-end processes. You have a direct influence on the further professionalization of the Wholesale Banking organisation. You work in an international environment and collaborate with other ING departments.

Your most important tasks include a.o.:

• Independently executing and leading projects in which you guide all stakeholders within the value chain;
• Providing fact-based analyses and advice on process performance. And realising improvement potential together with the organisation;
• Enabling the organisation to select, start and successfully implement improvements with the highest impact, backed by quantified improvement evidence;
• Follow up on implementation activities to ensure realisation of the full impact;
• Coaching business lines on behavior and effective decision making based on facts, in order to create sustainable results;
• Coaching Green Belts in the execution of assignments.

In your role as consultant you interact on multiple levels in the organisation; from operational staff to senior management. In order to create support and alignment during the improvement projects you need to be able to build relations and your coaching skills are key. On top of this, strong analytical skills and numerical understanding are required in order to structure problems, perform analyses and select the proper root causes and solutions.

Depending on seniority the following additional tasks may apply:

• Challenging your direct Black Belt colleagues on methodology, effectiveness and change;
• Developing and promoting new process improvement methodologies, standards and tools;
• Generating and discussing requests for Black Belt support with sponsors and making a selection of the proper Black Belt projects to engage in;
• Creating momentum and traction towards the Black Belt team within the Wholesale Banking organisation;
• Creating cross border alignment with the local Black Belt teams and creating one standard way of working across all Black Belts.

Achieving concrete results

As a Black Belt you work on process improvement projects in which achieving concrete results is always key. The average duration of these projects is 4 to 6 months, sometimes individually and sometimes together with other Black Belts. In order to realise this, we use Lean Six Sigma as well as other methodologies such as Process Design, Agile and Data Science.

Working in a dynamic environment and continuous developing yourself (possibly also abroad)

You are together with a small Black Belt team part of a pleasant, informal and professional team within the Transformation Office in Amsterdam. The other disciplines present in this Centre of Expertise are Change Execution Professionals and Agile Coaches. You work in an international environment where continuous innovation creates a lot of dynamics in your working environment. Interesting terms of employment

In this full time Black Belt position at ING Wholesale Banking, you not only receive an excellent salary (depending on your work experience), but you are also entitled to 27 holidays, 13th month remittance and other comprehensive secondary working conditions.

Hybrid way of working, partially from home office and partially from ING HQ in Amsterdam.

Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to think out new solutions (“outside of the box”); rigor in fact base / data analysis ;
• Coordination and project management skills for running multiple initiatives requiring identical resources or overlapping in time;
• You master the classic analytical tools like Excel and Minitab (experience with state-of-the art tools like Process Mining, R and/or Python is preferred);
• Strong willingness and ambition to drive process and cultural change; ability to challenge authority and speak up;
• Strong execution capabilities and delivery of results;
• High level of pro-activeness and initiative;
• Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills for interactions with management and operational staff;
• Leadership skills and ability to motivate staff.

Furthermore you have:

• An academic Master degree;
• At least 5 years of relevant experience* of which at least 1 year as a LSS Black Belt (or similar). You are LSS Black Belt certified;
• Excellent level of English orally and in writing;
• Relevant working experience:
  • Experience in process design, measurement and improvement;
  • Experience in working with process frameworks and standard;
  • Experience in working in a global organizations with different cultures and maturity levels.

* Experience in managing and steering a department as an operational manager, top-tier Consultant, giving guidance to cultural changes, supply chain management and/or Lean Six Sigma/Operational Excellence is considered as relevant working experience
