ING Labs is searching for a Corporate Venture Builder to build a new Embedded and Revenue Based Finance Product to deliver loans to small and mid-sized companies in a simple, integrated and direct way. The goal is to meet customers on their digital platforms to offer the right financing at the right place and right time, by leveraging non-traditional data for credit risk modelling.

Who we are

We are always looking for new ways to do things faster, better, cheaper. To move out of our comfort zone, even beyond banking, so that we can better serve the needs of customers with solutions that address their challenges.

Empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and business is ING’s purpose and the main driver for ING Labs. We focus on increasing the pace of innovation to serve changing customer needs. The Labs focus on thinking beyond traditional banking to develop new services to take to market.

We will support you in building your initiative by pitching for funding to ING’s Innovation Fund. We tackle the complex and messy process of building solutions by breaking them down into different phases with key validation points. For this we use ING’s innovation methodology, PACE , which builds on Lean Startup, Design Thinking, and Agile. Progress is assessed by the Innovation Fund, and you pitch for your proposed next steps to be funded.

You will be working in the ING Labs Amsterdam office and/ or remotely in a very international and dynamic environment.

What you will be working on

The Embedded Revenue Based Lending initiative will go through a stage gated innovation process with the goal of creating a new proposition that can potentially spin into one of ING’s Neo scale-ups. Over the last few months the team has completed the Discovery phase and will soon be entering the Problem Fit phase and subsequently the Solution Fit phase. To validate the vision, you will align with ING-internal and external stakeholders along the journey.

In the Problem Fit Phase, you will work closely with a second Corporate Venture Builder, Solution Designer and PACE coach. Your common goal, as a team, will be to validate the target customer segment, their pain points and needs to create a compelling value proposition, with the aim of building an ING solution for this market. In the next phase (Solution Fit), the team will expand (e.g. with Data Scientists and Developers) in order to design the MVP solution.

The Corporate Venture Builder Embedded Finance has the full end to end responsibility of applying and maintaining a stakeholder-centric approach within the team and ensuring decisions are consistently challenged and backed up by data.

Roles & responsibilities

Your role as a Corporate Venture Builder Revenue-based Lending, will be to:

  • Validate the target customer segment by conducting interviews and surveys.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the customers/personas and their pain points to ensure we are working on the problems that have a high impact on them.

  • Gather customer feedback on possible solution ideas.
  • Identify and systematically test the riskiest assumptions of the problem taken in consideration.

  • Identify the direction for the value proposition, lead it through the Problem fit phase and into the Solution Fit phase and beyond.
  • Develop a product vision, strategy and roadmap and align with ING’s strategic goals.

  • Present evidence-backed data to the Innovation Fund to access further funding.
  • Communicate and share learnings with key stakeholders for continuous improvement.
