At a glance

The Duty of Care Expertise Centre is a department within Compliance. Together with the business compliance officers, the Duty of Care Expertise Centre supports ABN AMRO’s business leadership in development, implementation and continuous improvement of an effective and integrated bank wide approach to duty of care and client centricity.

Your job

As Duty of Care Officer, you’ll be responsible for the second line of defence. As part of a small team (5 p) of experts, your main responsibilities include:
• Staying on top of regulatory trends and developments as well as emerging risks related to duty of care;
• Policy making based on regulatory universe and ABN AMRO’s purpose and client centric strategy;
• Signalling opportunities in the bank’s strategic agenda for applying duty of care and client centricity and aligning with relevant initiatives to ensure correct application;
• Supporting Business Compliance Officers and business line management in implementation of the banks strategic Duty of Care agenda;
• Develop and execute learning and education programs for the business to enhance the knowledge, understanding, skills and capabilities related to duty of care in the business;
• Development of risk monitoring frameworks and maintaining oversight on the effectiveness of ABN AMRO’s duty of care responsibilities;
• Management reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer and the Compliance Management Team on a regular basis;
• Effective second line of defence, delivering independent advice and challenge to the first line;
• Direct exposure to Executive Committee and bank wide Senior Management and providing high-quality deliverables to senior management committees and the AFM.

Working environment

The team
We are a small team with an important high profile assignment and with a lot of care for each other. We begin with ‘care’ which naturally evolves into intensive ‘collaboration’. In this role, you develop key relationships with:
• Chief Compliance Officer and the Management Team Compliance
• Business Line management and respective Management Team members
• Process & Control leaders in the business lines, Legal and Operational Risk Management
• Executive Committee and bank wide Senior Management
• Regulators

The Compliance function
Effective compliance management is vital for ABN AMRO’s purpose ‘Banking for better for generations to come’. It is a very important contributor to the protection of our integrity and reputation. It helps build trust. As part of the Risk Management organisation, the Compliance Function has a servant leadership role, in the second line of defence, in supporting a bank wide compliance culture with a focus on doing things right the first time, for its customers and in its role as gatekeeper for society at large. The Compliance Function supports the business lines and the management body in managing compliance risks and to act with integrity.

Your profile

Personality & behaviour
• You get things done and are used to deal with many issues at one time and to deliver;
• You observe and have insight into the influence and consequences of decisions and behaviour of people in the organisation and knows how different approaches can be used to reach a goal;
• You are analytical and proficient in weighted decision-making on complex issues.

Knowledge & experience
• You have a Master’s degree in Dutch Law, Business Administration, Psychology, Philosophy, Business Ethics or Criminology or equivalent degree in a related field of study.
• You have a minimum of ten years work experience, with demonstrable compliance and business experience within a financial institution and commercial business unit with large reputational risks.
• You are proficient in English, both orally and in writing.
• You have preferably completed a certified advanced compliance education (e.g. Certified Compliance Officer, ACAMS, Executive Master Compliance and Integrity Management etc.).
• You have a solid understanding of the relevant regulatory requirements and their impact on the bank;
• You have a deep understanding of the relevance of compliance topics (such as duty of care) in the different businesses and operations of the bank;
• You have experience with complex legislation on financial products, (digital) services, target operating models, clients, and employees in mostly international settings with high (integrity) risk impact;
• You have experience with compliance and integrity risk management;
• You have a solid grasp of compliance processes – including control, business priorities, regulatory reporting, issues and risks;
• You have a proven track record in stakeholder management at senior level, both internal and external.
