IT Area Lead


ING is looking for IT Area Lead candidates for different IT Area Lead positions within Domestic Bank Netherlands Tech Domain. As IT Area Lead you will be working in one of the five IT Lead domains and you will lead and be responsible to define and implement the IT strategy for your own IT domain in line with the bank’s IT and business strategy. As an IT Area Lead you will not only be responsible for the strategy site, but also fully responsible for the delivery, stability, maturity, security, risk, availability, operations and last, but not least, the continuous improvement of your applications or platforms used locally in NL and/or global platforms and applications.

Obviously, all in very close cooperation with your Business and IT colleagues.

We’re looking for someone who combines senior leadership skills with strong technical knowledge. Strong stakeholder management skills are also expected as you will be working closely with many stakeholders within Domestic Bank Netherlands (DBNL), global business and IT teams, other local countries and vendors.

In scope of the IT areas in DBNL are applications and platforms being used globally or locally, like our Mobile Banking App and Web platform, product applications like for our payments products, assisted channels applications or core banking applications.

Next to delivering business functionalities creating the best customer value and experience, another important focus for you is to simplify our technology landscape. As much as possible we make use of a modern standards based micro services architecture using java based API’s, Web components, cloud and container platforms.

IT Areas have in general around 50-100 engineers working across the Netherlands, other ING locations including Poland, Romania, Philippines or with our strategic partners (India). ITALs are responsible to create a balanced team of internals / externals with a good Dreyfus maturity distribution.

Other tasks and responsibilities include

Creating and ensuring an Agile - Customer Centric culture (one Agile way of working)

  • Working with squads in BizDevOps and speaking in one voice with our business colleagues
  • Managing/leading the IT Area with several chapter leads
  • Developing craftsmanship of everyone working in the IT domain
  • Providing high-level strategic guidance to the Chapter Leads on development of engineers in IT Area
  • Improving the engineering maturity in domain, hiring and retaining best engineers and setting an engineering culture.

Designing and executing the IT strategy Ensuring a safe and compliant bank from an IT perspective (IT custodianship) Having delivery responsibility and responsibility for IT-related decisions within the IT Area, ensuring stability and reliability of the IT Landscape Defining and implementing vendor and sourcing strategy

  • Education: IT education background and a Master’s degree
