Sustainable Procurement Program Manager

ING is looking to hire a sustainability professional to support and manage the Sustainable Procurement Program for ING Procurement Bank Netherlands

The global Sustainable Procurement Program (SPP) is a mature and rigorous program that plays a key role in ING’s global sustainability direction, environmental program and overall sustainability performance. The SPP has also played an innovative role in influencing the business to adopt new sustainable technologies and concepts. Sustainable Procurement program manager reports to the Chief Procurement Officer Netherlands. As program manager, you will be responsible for the continuous improvement, success and deepened integration on a local and global level. Your work will be reflected in external ratings and internal adoption of ING’s values.

Procurement Bank Netherlands (PBNL) manages ING's external spend and suppliers. PBNL’s objective is to maximize the business benefits, ING can leverage from its vendors. Your work environment

The Sustainable Procurement Program is a dynamic program that embeds social and environmental policies and procedures in the existing procurement processes to equip buyers and contract managers in mitigating risks and seeking new strategic opportunities in purchasing decisions. The SPP is embedded in the Procurement Bank Netherlands but has a global reach. You will work with the Procurement team, which operates in an agile project-based work culture, stimulating an open and informal work environment that welcomes creativity and entrepreneurship to build success in ING.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a sustainability professional with proven ability to affect change within a complex organization. The candidate should be a natural networker, capable of building bridges across business lines. You should have a unique set of soft and hard skills for program and project management, non-financial risk analysis, change management, and functional steering.

Key responsibilities/accountabilities

· Overseeing the success and integration of the Sustainable Procurement Program on a local and global level.

· Ensuring alignment of Procurement policies and procedures with those of environmental and social risk, sustainability, external regulations and norms.

· Advising on annual global and local targets and building roadmaps to monitor and realize the set goals.

· Driving the quality and performance of Procurement through tracking, analyzing, and reporting on progress indicators to steer continuous improvement efforts.

· Data management and progress communication.

· Guiding and empowerong the work streams related to local Procurement sustainability coordinators in order to meet objectives and requested deliverables.

· Building relationships with internal business partners and external parties to create opportunities for collaboration and scaling impact to deepen the integration of sustainable procurement across all purchasing domains.

· Providing support with supplier policy deviation and remedial actions.

· Implementation and management of Ecovadis, third party CSR monitoring tool.

· Further development and integration of the Circular Purchasing concept throughout the Procurement organization.

· Liaising with and providing input to global sustainability team and local sustainability teams for periodic communications and assessments such as the annual report and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index assessment.

· Maintaining and identifying areas of improvement in the Sustainable Procurement Program, while providing continuous support for the development of new concepts which build upon SPP objectives.

Personal Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a must and a Master’s degree is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in the field of sustainability on a corporate level
  • Experience with change and program management
  • Process, problem solving and action orientated mind-set
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Highly motivated team player with can-do mentality
  • Proven understanding of the procurement function
  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills, both verbally and written
  • Fluent in English and Dutch, written and spoken.
  • A relevant (sustainability) network, strong personal presence, comfortable in interacting with various stakeholders and senior management
