The programme

Above all, being an Operations & Change trainee at ING means taking action. ING is uniting to build the digital bank of the future. But, as any builder knows, before you start building you first need a strong foundation.What exactly does this involve? It’s about uniting our processes, data, IT, and shared services – the bricks of our transformation – and cementing these with a single way of working. It’s about becoming One Bank that offers our customers products and services that meet their expectations and that are remarkably easy, surprisingly personal and refreshingly smart.

The Chief Operations Office (COO) is leading when it comes to transforming and running ING as the bank of the future. COO brings together many disciplines which means that as a trainee you will be working at the intersection of digitalisation, process engineering, data management and optimising the client journey. Therefore, this role asks for talented people that can drive optimisation and change, always look at things end-to-end, are true believers of standardisation, and have specific operations skills and expertise.

The traineeship consists of two rotations of each 6 months after which you will start your first steady job in ING. We will match you to your first rotation based on your preferences. You are in the lead to find your second rotation (which has to be in another country) and your first job, but we will support you if needed. Some examples of rotations and jobs of other Operations & Change trainees: run an end-to-end process improvement wave at one of the key E2E processes in ING, assistant Roadmap manager within COO Finance for a period of 6 months, or a first position as junior business consultant Global Change Management or Customer Journey Expert Business Lending.

Next to your rotations, you have to complete several trainings like lean six sigma and CFA level 1 and you will attend annual ITP events where half of the programme is for all trainees and the other half for Operations & Change trainees specifically.

What do we offer you?

Needless to say we offer you an excellent basic salary for this traineeship (starters position), a 13th month, paid annual leave, an impressive training package and a permanent contract. But above all we offer you the chance to shape your own ideas about banking in a receptive environment and hence to make banking even simpler and more transparent for our customers. Together with other (international) trainees you will participate in global events, which will enable you to quickly build up a large network. You also have the opportunity to do one of your projects abroad – because six months in Madrid, Frankfurt or Milan is not only really interesting but also good for your development.

As a trainee you receive guidance from your line manager, and an HR Talent manager. They will coach you, inspire you, introduce you to their network and share their knowledge and insights with you.

What do we ask of you?

  • You have a master degree from a university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Information Management, Change Management, Business Administration or (Industrial) Engineering.
  • You have an interest in financial services, an innovative take on banking, are metrics and process driven and have an unconditional drive to turn your ideas into reality.
  • As a student you have gained (international) experience through various extracurricular activities.
  • You are enthusiastic and consider the interests of our customers and your colleagues.
