The programme

Above all, being an Operations & Change trainee at ING means taking action. ING is uniting to build the digital bank of the future. But, as any builder knows, before you start building you first need a strong foundation.

What exactly does this involve? It’s about uniting our people, processes, platforms and products – the bricks of our transformation – and cementing these with a single way of working and a global culture of innovation and collaboration. It’s about becoming One Bank.

And there’s something in it for customers too. Getting a mortgage, for example, should take a customer in Poland exactly the same time and the same number of steps as for a customer in The Netherlands, or Australia.

The Chief Operations Office (COO) is leading when it comes to the process of converging into One Bank. This role asks for talented people with strong leadership capabilities, and specific operations skills and expertise.

One of the business transformation programmes you could be working on aims to realize one integrated banking platform in the Netherlands and Belgium for 11 million customers. Or you could work at ING Di-Ba in Germany. Goal is to further digitalize banking in Germany, further grow the customer base, and speed up innovation. Very recently a fully digitalised account-opening process was launched, where new clients can open a current account in only a few minutes.

Based on your own interests, you can indicate your preferences for your first rotation so that we can work together to find a suitable starting role for you. Alongside your own assignment, you also collaborate with other trainees on a group assignment. This enables you to get to know several departments within the COO domain.

It’s up to you to arrange your second rotation on your own, but that will be no problem for you since by then you will have built up a sizeable network and know what you want. Many of our trainees choose to do a rotation abroad.

After that, you start in your first ‘real’ job, which lasts for approximately two years. The aim is to further enhance your knowledge and hone your skills in roles such as business consultant, lead of an operational team, Blackbelt or data analist.

What do we offer you?

Needless to say we offer you an excellent basic salary for this traineeship (starters position), a 13th month, paid annual leave, an impressive training package and a permanent contract. But above all we offer you the chance to shape your own ideas about banking in a receptive environment and hence to make banking even simpler and more transparent for our customers. Together with other (international) trainees you will participate in global events, which will enable you to quickly build up a large network. You also have the opportunity to do one of your projects abroad – because six months in Madrid, Frankfurt or Milan is not only really interesting but also good for your development.

As a trainee you receive guidance from your line manager, an HR Talent manager and a Senior Manager in a mentor’s role. They will coach you, inspire you, introduce you to their network and share their knowledge and insights with you.

What do we ask of you?

  • You have a master degree from a university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Information Management, Change Management, Business Administration or (Industrial) Engineering.
  • You have an interest in financial services, an innovative take on banking and an unconditional drive to turn your ideas into reality.
  • As a student you have gained (international) experience through various extracurricular activities.
  • You are enthusiastic and consider the interests of our customers and your colleagues.
