Your work environment

ING’s role in society is to facilitate financial activity and stimulate economic development in a way that ultimately drives sustainable progress. We strive to do so by acting on our purpose to empower people to stay a step ahead in life and in business and by ensuring long-term success is measured by the sum of all of its parts – economic, social and environmental.

To succeed in this, we are implementing our Sustainability Direction, which focuses us on two themes that impact our stakeholders and long-term business performance: financial empowerment and sustainable transitions. We believe we have the ability, scale and drive to make a difference in those two areas.

In the last two years, we have made good progress and this was recognized both internally and externally. We have strengthened our score and position in all sustainability ratings. This encourages us to execute our sustainability direction in a well thought out and structured way.

Our department

The Sustainability department develops the overall ethical, social and environmental direction of ING. The department has a global focus. We engage in dialogue with key stakeholder groups such as NGOs, governments, academics, sustainable research agencies and investors. The team analyses social and environmental trends, takes part in public debate, works closely with the various business lines and risk departments as well as with Media Relations or Public & Governmental Affairs, and advises ING’s Management Board and senior management on strategy, reputation management, reporting and business development.
