HBO/WO Workalong Internship at the Group Treasury department of ING

Deze stage is niet meer vacant

Market Risk & Execution is looking for an intern for 6 months in our Amsterdam office. The internship is not meant to write your master thesis, but to learn on the job. You will be surrounded by professional staff that will help you boost your knowledge of managing market risks and funding a bank’s balance sheet.

Group Treasury (GT) operates in the very heart of the bank. Its purpose is to safeguard a healthy balance sheet, structure a solid funding profile and act on any interest rate and liquidity risk that may arise. Treasury advises the Management Board of the bank in which direction to move the balance sheet, keep a sound risk-return and be sufficiently robust to ‘weather the storm’.

Market Risk & Execution is a line directly facing the market, being the eyes and ears of the bank. The teams manage the interest rate risks of the Retail and Wholesale units, tap the markets to fund the assets of the bank and manage the liquidity needs of the bank. Market Risk & Execution can decide how to manage the risk: hedge it in the financial markets or keep it.

You will be working in the team of Liquidity Management. The team is active mainly in the money market, FX swap market and Repo market. The team is responsible to create enough liquidity to fund the short term needs of the bank, but also to deploy the excess liquidity the bank has in an optimal way. The second major responsibility of the team is to assess market developments and the effect of those on ING’s liquidity position, funding profile and balance sheet, as well as, and communicate those to high level Management. The team consists of 7 professionals and daily life is very international.

The team decisions are governed heavily by the regulatory landscape. More and more regulation emerges about the dynamics among assets, liabilities and equity, liquidity and funding profile. Your main responsibility will be to provide more insights and support the team in their daily responsibilities. Despite not actively trading yourself, you will be very close to the markets and you will have the opportunity to gain more market insights and generate data driven analyses and solutions.

Being in the heart of the markets, the team also receives a lot of reports and questions regarding financial performance, Balance Sheet evolution, Market trends etc. Therefore, you will be expected to collect, structure and analyse data to create clear output/summary of the drivers of the business.

The successful candidate will be eager to learn about market dynamics and how they impact a bank. She/he will gain insights about regulatory requirements such as LCR, Capital ratios etc. and how they drive a Treasuries decisions.

To qualify for the internship, we are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Masters in econometrics / economics / finance / data or computer sciences / any other technical field but showing a clear affinity with finance and or economics
  • for doing an internship, it is a hard requirement to still be subscribed as a student
