Your work environment

As part of Wholesale Banking Risk, the scope of FIFM is ING’s Financial Markets (trading) business. Within that scope, MRCP is responsible for monitoring, analysing and reporting on global market risk, including related regulatory and economic capital, and performance of the trading activities.
In addition, MRCP has an important role in coordinating and implementing all market risk-related new internal initiatives as well as regulatory changes, such as the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book.

The MRCP team is an energetic international team of highly qualified professionals. The team has an open, informal atmosphere and a strong focus on team work (including an Agile way of working).
We work in a dynamic environment, balancing daily measurement and analysis with the rapid changes in the financial markets and increasing demands from the regulators.

What do we offer?

The MRCP team is offering a 6 month graduate internship.

Job description

As part of its risk management, ING assesses its Economic Capital (EC). EC is a metric to determine the amount of equity capital a bank must hold to protect itself against insolvency, given its mix of assets and liabilities and its strategy to risk appetite. EC practices comprise methodologies, models, processes, and data to determine the amount of capital required to cover against the relevant risks the organisation is facing, e.g. the risk of losses through client defaults and the risk of asset value changes through movements in market parameters. EC is modelled and reported in parallel to regulatory capital, which determines required equity capital based on Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) as specified by the regulator. Although similar in the objective of measuring the required capital buffer, the two metrics are different in the sense of EC being more comprehensive in its risks included and more tailored to ING.

Within the ING EC framework, MRCP is responsible for the methodologies, models, processes, and data to determine the amount of EC for the ING trading books. With new Market Risk methodologies becoming mainstream (e.g. Expected Shortfall, Default Risk Charge, etc) and ever increasing demand from internal policies & external regulations (e.g. SREP, ICAAP), MRCP would like to (re)define all the business requirements for a new Market Risk Economic Capital model.
Depending on the time available, it may also include building a prototype and drafting more formal documentation for its implementation together with the ING Model Development department.
