IT Chapter Lead iDEAL / Payment Request

Regular, Full-time, Noord-Holland (Amsterdam)

ING is looking for Chapter Lead

The DevOps team that is responsible for iDEAL payments at ING is looking for a senior Java engineer / Chapter Lead.

The iDEAL team is responsible for several applications that are all related to the iDEAL payment system. Besides iDEAL also Incassomachtigen, iDIN and Betaalverzoek are part of the team its portfolio.

In the iDEAL team we offer you the opportunity to try new things or work on innovations, bring your ideas to life. All team members have an equal say in the stories on the backlog and what will be picked up from it. Once a year there is an ING 24h hackathon where new ideas can be realized and presented to the public. The team often participates in this event and even has won with their implementation of Betaalverzoek. As the concept of a hackathon brings so much energy to the team, they organize a mini-hackathon every two months. This time is used to focus on a new feature in a short amount of time.

As the team is a DevOps team you will always have the customer in mind. The team aims for 24x7 uptime of the applications and is very fanatic about it. All members take part in an on-call standby rotation. This means we expect you to not only be enthusiastic about making new applications, but also to be focused on mending what is already there. The team continuously improves and maintains code, monitoring, alerting and processes.

Using Kanban and a release train the team is able to bring live code changes and customer value every two weeks. However, the ambition is to release code weekly! This means that there are a lot of challenges to be won over by automating everything that can be automated.

The team mainly uses the following technologies and frameworks: Java, Angular JS, JavaScript, REST, Jenkins, Maven, Gatling, Git, Protractor, Karma. All based on a Tomcat/Linux/Oracle/Cassandra stack.

Your job

As a chapter lead, you are responsible for managing and inspiring a chapter of 8-12 DevOps engineers. Your main task is to enable your engineers to grow their mastery and get a little bit better in what they do every day. In the other 50% of your time, as an engineer you deliver as a squad member.

Next to that, you are part of the leadership team of the IT area. Together with the other chapter leads and the IT area lead you develop vision and execute strategy to inspire our engineers to grow and drive technological innovation.

Managing your chapter means actively working on the development of your engineers through continuous on-the-job coaching and 1:1 conversations. Creating a development plan and monitoring it together. Finding the true purpose of your engineers and enabling them to grow in what they love to do and are good at to find that win-win situation for the engineer and ING.
