ING is redefining banking. What about you?

There has never been a more interesting time to work at ING. We’re on a journey that is centred around our customers, powered by technology and driven by smart, determined people. Our employees are empowering our customers to stay a step ahead in life and in business. And we’re proud of that!

Would you like to work for a bank where honesty, integrity and responsibility are valued? Are sustainability, caring for others and thinking ahead all part of your DNA? Do you want to make a real difference for our customers thanks to our agile way of working (click on link to see the video https://youtu.be/uXg6hG6FrG0) Then read on, because ING might well be just the employer you’re looking for.

Setting the standards for worldwide data governance

ING is rapidly transforming from a traditional bank into a next-generation digital bank, where everything revolves around data and smart data intelligence. The gathering, usage, management and governance of data is of the highest importance – a cornerstone in our transformation. We are creating a well-governed data lake that ensures data availability, common understanding of business terms, where data quality is measured and issues are remediated, and where data is traceable and controlled in line with regulations: an ambitious implementation based on leading technology. The tribe you will be working in is responsible for developing the standards that will be rolled out worldwide. In your role, you will have the opportunity to strategically steer and contribute to this development and roll-out. It goes without saying that this position entails a great deal of collaboration and careful stakeholder management – not only with tribes within the Belgian and Dutch organisation, but also with people within the ING Group as a whole.

Your role & work environment
As a Product Area Lead you will be taking responsibility for part of the tribe's business
purpose. You will steer your Product Area in terms of delivering the purpose (the ‘what’) in two different countries with multiple cultures. You will divide your time between Amsterdam and Brussels. Therefore, you should be prepared to work away from home for a substantial part of your working week. You will work together with the squads’ Product Owners in the Product Area concerned and may also be a delegated Asset Owner with responsibility for risk and data.

Your key responsibilities
You will report to the Tribe Lead for Data Management and be the Tribe Lead’s ‘right-hand man’. Your responsibilities are broad and varied, from resolving cross-tribe impedements and leading marketplaces to acting as a Product Owner in a specific squad. Together, we will determine where and how you can add the most value to the tribe, based on your personal strengths.

An overview of your responsibilities:

  • Steering the Product Area covering the data management platform, data automation services and at least three business data domains (e.g. assisted channels). This Product Area consists of at least 8 squads.
  • Being a Product Owner for one of the squads in scope.
  • Sharing responsibility to ensure data continuity for finance reporting, risk reporting, regulatory reporting, multi-segment reporting and 1-1 analytics during the transformation to the next-generation digital bank.
  • Leading the successful migration, in 2018, to one united data management platform, located in Dutch data centres and ensuring its high availability.
  • Sharing the responsibility to capture, structure, manage and distribute data in a responsible and innovative way, according to our minimum standards for data management and aligned with regulatory needs, to create value for our customers and for ING as a whole.
  • Managing stakeholders and dependencies with collaborating tribes.
  • Helping the organisation to progress to a higher level of data management maturity.

In light of ING’s way of working and your cross-border position, the following responsibilities are an inextricable part of your role:

  • Strengthening the ‘ING Way of Working’ while leading by example in line with the Orange Code.
  • Stimulating cross-border interaction between people, tribes, squads and chapters.
  • Creating and sustaining the new cross-cultural collaboration by creating awareness and understanding, leveraging on diversity and communicating effectively.

We are looking for:

An energetic and driven pioneer with a passion for and a strong understanding of the
challenges that come with data. A flexible and inspirational professional who feels at ease in a cross-border culture.

These competencies are important in this role:

  • Ability to display a flexible range of leadership styles to teams and to adapt your plan, approach and behavior to the different needs and situations.
  • Strong organisational sensitivity; ability to understand and take into account theunderlying issues, opportunities and dynamics of an organisation.
  • Ability to take responsibility, steer strategy and execution based on facts and data; managerial courage to question and make decisions.
  • Focus on delivery through collaboration, ability to unite people to work towards the same purpose.
  • Ability to empower teams to act autonomously and think out of the box, and to hold them accountable.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to simplify complexity and drive operational excellence.
  • Ability to support your own and other team members’ development.
  • Strong resilience; ability to navigate through ambiguity.
  • Ability to make an impact through inspiring and energetic leadership that steers teams through change.

Proven track record and technical skills:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience and/or affinity with data management and data governance is a strong advantage
  • Proven experience or strong affinity with the ING Agile Way of Working is an advantage
  • Sound experience in building strategic roadmaps
  • Expertise in driving and steering multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven experience in strategic projects with high impact
  • Excellent command of English language

What do we offer?

  • Job grade indication: 13 (NL); BG 3 (BE); the weighting is final after official approval
  • A challenging cross-border position.
